Underground Drop Supervisor

Lead the Field. Develop the Team. Deliver Quality.

CUI is looking for an experienced, hands-on Underground Drop Supervisor to lead our underground drop operations and help drive safe, efficient, high-quality field performance.

This is more than a position that assigns work and tracks production. We’re looking for a leader who can develop crews, solve problems in the field, hold teams accountable, and create an operation that consistently delivers for our customers.

If you have underground telecommunications experience, enjoy leading people, and take pride in getting the job done safely and correctly, this is an opportunity to take ownership of an important part of our growing operation.

What You'll Do

Lead & Develop Field Teams

  • Provide daily leadership and direction to underground drop technicians and subcontractor crews.
  • Coach, train, and mentor team members to improve safety, quality, productivity, and overall performance.
  • Set clear expectations and hold crews accountable for meeting operational and customer standards.
  • Conduct regular performance conversations and provide actionable feedback to help employees grow.

Drive Quality & Customer Experience

  • Oversee underground drop installations, repairs, maintenance, and restoration activities.
  • Perform field inspections and quality checks to ensure work meets CUI and client expectations.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions, coaching, or process improvements.
  • Ensure job sites are properly restored and completed with a focus on minimizing customer and property impact.
  • Troubleshoot field challenges and technical issues quickly to minimize delays and service disruptions.

Champion Safety

  • Lead by example and create a culture where safety is part of every job—not an afterthought.
  • Enforce CUI safety policies and all applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct job-site safety observations and address unsafe behaviors or conditions immediately.
  • Ensure crews properly use required PPE, tools, and equipment.

Deliver Results

  • Track daily production, completion rates, quality performance, safety, and other operational KPIs.
  • Monitor labor, materials, equipment usage, and other resources to support efficient operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work, materials, job status, and field activity.
  • Complete required daily and weekly production reports, safety documentation, and expense reporting.
  • Partner with operations leadership to identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and profitability.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in underground telecommunications, utility construction, cable installation, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of leadership, supervisory, or crew-lead experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of underground drop installation methods, tools, equipment, restoration, and field safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead both internal employees and subcontractor crews.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple crews, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints, maps, utility information, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and field or production management systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in telecommunications, construction management, business, or a related field is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.

What Success Looks Like

Successful Underground Drop Supervisors at CUI:

  • Lead from the field and stay connected to what's happening with their crews.
  • Build teams that operate safely, efficiently, and with accountability.
  • Develop technicians and crew members instead of simply managing production.
  • Catch quality issues before they become customer problems.
  • Communicate effectively with technicians, subcontractors, customers, and leadership.
  • Take ownership of results and find solutions when challenges arise.
  • Consistently deliver on safety, quality, production, and customer expectations.

Physical & Field Requirements

This is an active field leadership position that may require:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather and field conditions.
  • Walking and inspecting active underground construction and installation sites.
  • Frequent bending, standing, climbing, and working around excavation areas.
  • Lifting and carrying tools, equipment, or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Entering confined or restricted work areas when required.
  • Traveling throughout the assigned market to support crews and inspect work.

Build What's Next With CUI

At CUI, our supervisors play an important role in both our operational success and the development of our people. You'll have the opportunity to lead crews, improve processes, solve real-world field challenges, and help build an operation capable of supporting continued growth.

If you're ready to bring your underground experience into a leadership role where safety, people, quality, and performance matter, we'd like to hear from you.
