This role plays a critical part in identifying needed repairs, estimating reconditioning needs, and supporting inventory readiness and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, and committed to producing high-quality work in a fast-paced dealership environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Vehicle Inspection & Evaluation Perform multi-point inspections on incoming used vehicles, trade-ins, auction purchases, and aged inventory Identify mechanical, electrical, cosmetic, and safety-related concerns Inspect engine, transmission, suspension, steering, brakes, tires, HVAC, battery, and fluid systems Conduct road tests to verify vehicle performance and drivability Assess vehicles for compliance with state safety and emissions standards where applicable Document inspection findings accurately and thoroughly Reconditioning Support Recommend required repairs and maintenance needed for retail readiness Assist management in determining vehicle disposition: Retail Wholesale Auction Provide repair estimates and labor recommendations Communicate findings with service advisors, used car managers, and reconditioning teams Help prioritize repairs to support inventory turn objectives Quality & Safety Ensure all inspected vehicles meet dealership quality standards Verify completion of safety-related repairs prior to vehicle release Maintain compliance with OSHA and dealership safety procedures Properly handle tools, equipment, and hazardous materials Shop Operations Maintain a clean and organized work area Properly document work performed in dealership systems Assist with minor repairs and reconditioning work as needed Stay current on manufacturer updates, repair procedures, and inspection processes Support team productivity and departmental goals QualificationsQualifications High school diploma or GED preferred Previous automotive technician or inspection experience preferred ASE certifications preferred but not required Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Basic computer and tablet proficiency for inspection documentation Preferred Experience Experience in dealership, auction, or independent repair environments Familiarity with: Multi-point inspection processes Reconditioning standards Used vehicle acquisition inspections Knowledge of dealership service software and inspection tools Core Competencies Attention to detail Mechanical aptitude Time management Accountability Team collaboration Quality focus Reliability and consistency Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to work in varying temperatures and shop conditions Frequent use of hand and power tools
