Job Summary

Supports the execution of the district's internal and external communication activities by writing, editing, and planning a variety of district communication activities. Receives assignments from the director of communications and takes initiative to undertake daily tasks outlined in the job responsibilities. Works closely with the other communications office staff and web support to coordinate tasks as needed. This position takes lead in managing district marketing efforts and as a liaison to other district offices and schools to support district and school marketing activities, such as planning and executing marketing campaigns, including producing and placing social media, newspaper, and radio advertisements, planning and executing or working with creative team to execute creative assets and monitoring effectiveness of activities.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement a creative, sustained marketing communications effort to promote MNPS and its schools with a focus on social media and digital advertising. Activities will include developing and implementing district marketing plan and developing marketing tools for schools and other Support Hub offices, identifying and negotiating marketing and advertising opportunities to promote MNPS and schools, as needed, and working with other Communications and district staff on marketing projects.
  • Works with other internal team staff to manage and update the district intranet site as well as supports the digital content team in updating the district’s website.
  • Works with the team to develop new and frequent content for the district’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, among others.
  • Supports and oversees marketing campaigns including but not limited to school options, pre-K, and kindergarten registration.
  • May be asked to review and copy edit press releases, blog posts, letters, mass emails, fliers, or other communications generated by other staff to ensure the use of appropriate style, tone and grammar.
  • Manages email newsletters to staff and community; prepares and schedules employee email communications.
  • May be asked to attend community or district events as a representative of the communications department.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Communications, marketing, public relations, or other related field Required

Skills and Abilities

  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong writing and copyediting skills.
  • Candidates selected to be interviewed will be asked to complete writing and copyediting exercises to demonstrate competency and turnaround time.
