The Chief Business Officer (CBO) is responsible for the financial and business operations of PeabodyĀ CollegeĀ ofĀ EducationĀ andĀ HumanĀ Development,Ā includingĀ dailyĀ businessĀ processes, budgeting,Ā forecasting,Ā financialĀ reporting,Ā financialĀ modelingĀ andĀ analysis,Ā strategicĀ planning, human capital management, sponsored project administration, policy development and implementation, compliance and internal controls, and capital planning and budgeting.
Reporting jointly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Finance and to the Dean of Peabody College, the CBO is a key advisor to the Dean on strategic, financial, human resource, and operational topics.Ā The CBO is an effective leader, natural collaborator, and skilled communicator who builds trusting relationships across Peabody and the University.Ā The ideal candidate will have a strategic, decision-enabling mindset and keen financial and business acumenĀ thatĀ willĀ allowĀ themĀ toĀ effectivelyĀ adviseĀ theĀ Dean,Ā associateĀ deans,Ā departmentĀ chairs, administrators, and other key stakeholders.
TheĀ CBOĀ servesĀ asĀ theĀ primaryĀ pointĀ ofĀ contactĀ relativeĀ toĀ financialĀ andĀ businessĀ operationsĀ for Peabody College, working to accomplish the priorities of the College and of the broader University by leading and facilitating interactions with and between many of the core University offices that support the various schools, including Finance, People Culture and Belonging, General Counsel, Risk Management, Facilities, Development and Alumni Relations, and Vanderbilt University IT.

AnalyzeĀ financialĀ dataĀ toĀ supportĀ budgetingĀ andĀ decision-making,Ā providingĀ clear, actionable insights.
SupportĀ capitalĀ planningĀ byĀ developingĀ theĀ annualĀ capitalĀ budget,Ā planningĀ forĀ capital project financing, and monitoring capital expenditures.
Ensure effective utilization of gift and endowment funding while complying with donor restrictions.Ā ReportĀ toĀ FinanceĀ andĀ DevelopmentĀ andĀ AlumniĀ RelationsĀ periodicallyĀ on gift and endowment utilization.
CollaborateĀ withĀ DevelopmentĀ andĀ AlumniĀ RelationsĀ onĀ donorĀ agreements,Ā giftĀ and endowment accounting, and project management.
Oversee contract and grant administration, including grant expenditures, effort certification, cost-sharing, cost transfers, and grant closeout.Ā Collaborate with the PeabodyĀ ResearchĀ OfficeĀ onĀ grantĀ planningĀ andĀ budgeting.Ā CollaborateĀ withĀ Research Finance on grant accounting, reporting, and compliance matters.
Plan, oversee, and manage various programmatic revenue sources, including fees, royalties,Ā andĀ medicalĀ centerĀ serviceĀ agreements.Ā ReviewĀ andĀ approveĀ generalĀ accounts receivable and deposit transactions.
OverseeĀ monthly,Ā quarterly,Ā andĀ year-endĀ accountingĀ activities,Ā ensuringĀ accurate accounting and classification of transactions and year-end accruals.
