The Kindergarten – 4th Grade Dean of Culture at East End Prep will work with the K-4 Principal and other K-4 Leadership Team to ensure that all students demonstrate dramatic student achievement gains, build strong character, leadership skills, and internalize the school’s values. This individual will also help lead the school’s efforts to create a positive, structured, consistent, caring, and disciplined school culture.Â
Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working in collaboration with academic leaders and school leadership to support and maintain a high-trust, team-first, and inspiring staff culture that puts a high value on the well-being of the team as a whole and as individuals.
- Working closely with academic leaders to establish a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and inspiring school culture and monitor student progress toward their goals.
- Directly coaching and leading teachers on classroom management, culture, engagement, and maintaining high and consistent behavior expectations by providing consistent team and individual actionable feedback through targeted observations along with real time feedback in the classroom.
- Reinforce the effective use of a school-wide behavior plan, including managing the school’s merit and demerit systems and scaled consequence matrix.
- Serve as the point person for dealing with behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issues, as well as character and leadership development – implementing social skills and character groups, as needed
- Lead teachers, students, and parents in the effective creation and implementation of the MTSS B tiered intervention system.
- Keep accurate student discipline records, documenting all conferences, consequences ( including) suspensions, and phone calls for behavior.
- Ensure that behavioral expectations and school culture standards are met outside of the classroom as well as inside, including establishing and monitoring bus behavior/culture as well as cafeteria/mealtime, and recess behavior and culture.
- Proactively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways during the day, to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture, monitoring behavioral pull-out and in-school suspensions.
- Conduct weekly school walkthroughs using culture rubric to help staff maintain a high bar of excellence.
- Facilitate staff training on student-teacher relationships, classroom routines and expectations, parent partnership, and school culture.
- Acting as a resource to teachers in their instructional practice, especially as it relates to relationships with students, classroom management, engagement, and school culture.
- Supporting staff efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arriveÂ
- May participate in home visits highlighting the responsibilities of parents, teachers, and students
- Modeling the East End Prep core values and the standard for professional behavior.
- Supervising breakfast, lunch, in-between class transitions, arrival, and dismissal, making sure students are always where they are supposed to be and ensuring a professional school culture at these times.
- Dedicated to building a joyful culture with all stakeholders (family, scholars, staff)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a management or leadership capacity preferred
- Proven track record of meeting high standards for student achievement and culture
- Strong instructional, classroom management and discipline skills
- Excellent professional communication skills with parents and staff
- Demonstrated ability to coach teachers around student culture and classroom management
- Ability to manage multiple priorities from a variety of sources, organizing and prioritizing effectively to impact areas of greatest need;
- Experience organizing and facilitating effective meetings;
- Ability to deconstruct complex problems and develop coherent, actionable strategies;
- Ability to accept feedback and execute vision of excellence as set by principalÂ
- Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude
