The Registered nurse delivers care for patients across their life span, and through the use of the nursing process, assesses and documents the effects of care. Works cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, medical and other team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
Job Duties:
Initiates plan of care reflecting the assessment of the immediate physiological needs of the
patient within established time frames appropriate
Develops plan of nursing care in conjunction with the individual and/or significant others and
includes expected outcomes appropriate for the nursing diagnosis and unique patient/family needs
of the following patient populations
Evaluates, modifies, and updates the nursing care plan based on observable patient responses
and attainment of patient outcomes within established time frames
Correctly interprets and implements physician orders asking for clarification when necessary
Determines and assembles appropriate equipment/supplies for implementation of nursing
interventions.
Properly prepares patient for medical/surgical procedures and assists physician with
procedures as needed
Administers prescribed medications and monitors patient for side effects and/or adverse drug
affects.
Administers all chemotherapy utilizing precautions indicated by each specific agent
Prepares for management of extravasation when administering chemotherapy if needed.
Correctly obtains and handles patient specimens and cultures.
Properly documents medication and chemotherapy administration and age-specific nursing
interventions performed.
Evaluates and documents patients responses to all interventions and procedures carried out
both on a physical and psychological basis
Documents medication administration per unit policy.
Documents changes from baseline assessment specific to the patient’s age.
Documents and read back verbal orders from the physician in the order sheet and ensures cosignature in a timely manner per policy.
Accurately and legibly documents using hospital approved abbreviations, appropriate
signatures, titles, error corrections.
Assures completeness of nursing documentation on the medical record at the time of discharge
Appropriately uses equipment required.
Willingly assists physicians as needed in an efficient manner
Effectively responds to crisis situations and prevents patient deterioration by early intervention.
Demonstrations:
Performs initial physiological needs assessment within established time frames appropriate to
patient’s age.
Accurately and timely completes the admission assessment form to include biophysical,
psychosocial, educational, and environmental factors appropriate for patient’s age.
Derives appropriate nursing diagnosis from identified problems of the individual based on data
collected specific to the age of the patient.
Reassess and documents the age-specific patient's l needs per established unit policy for the
following patient population
- Must be a graduate of an accredited associate degree or bachelor's degree program in Nursing.
- Must possess a current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee.
- Current certification in BLS.
- One year of experience in acute care area is required.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development necessary for assessment, range of treatment and care of patients ranging from adolescence through geriatrics.
- Knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures, patient care procedures and the ability to operate technical equipment as acquired through orientation.
Additional experience requirements
- Certified in cancer chemotherapy and 5 years chemotherapy experience.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development necessary for assessment, range of treatment and care of patients ranging from adolescence through geriatrics.
- Knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures, patient care procedures, and the ability to operate technical equipment as acquired through orientation.
