Full-Time | Three consistent 12-hour shifts per week | Day Shift, 6:00 AM–6:00 PM

Nashville Veterinary Specialists in Nashville, TN is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our ICU Team. This role is ideal for a Veterinary Assistant or experienced veterinary professional who enjoys hands-on patient care, complex cases, and working in a supportive environment where learning and skill development are encouraged.

You’ll work alongside experienced veterinary professionals while supporting ICU patients and helping provide high-quality care in a specialty and emergency animal hospital.

Schedule

  • Full-Time

  • Three consistent 12-hour shifts per week

  • Day Shift: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on patient care and support the veterinary medical team in the ICU

  • Assist with patient monitoring, treatments, diagnostics, restraint, and other daily nursing care

  • Support Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians with the care of hospitalized and critical patients

  • Assist with routine and advanced patient care based on training and experience

  • Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked patient care areas

  • Follow hospital protocols for patient safety, sanitation, and infection control

  • Accurately document patient care and communicate observations to the medical team

  • Provide compassionate, professional communication with clients when appropriate

  • Adapt to the changing needs of individual patients in a fast-paced ICU environment

  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative hospital culture

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant, preferably in emergency medicine

  • Strong foundational knowledge of veterinary medicine, including triage, disease processes, pharmacology, restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, anesthesia, laboratory equipment, and procedures

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow patient care instructions

  • Excellent communication skills with both clients and veterinary team members

  • Ability to adapt to individual patient needs and remain composed in a fast-paced environment

  • Eagerness to continue learning and developing veterinary skills

  • Ability to safely lift and carry animals weighing 50 pounds or more

  • Ability to handle dogs weighing up to 150 pounds

  • Ability to bend, stand, stoop, walk, and sit for extended periods

  • Ability to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms

  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
