Walnut Hill School for the Arts is seeking a Graphic Designer to support a fast-paced Marketing Department that is continually seeking to set new standards for independent school marketing.Â
Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications, and in collaboration with the team, the Marketing Graphic Designer plays a valuable role in developing strategic content to increase visibility and awareness of the School. A skilled marketing and communications professional, this team member works across the entire school community to help create a wide variety of communications materials, both print and online.Â
This is a 12-month, non-exempt, position reporting to the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications. All Walnut Hill faculty/staff are active and engaged members of the School community committed to collaborating and growing in their field, participating in school events and supporting students in their arts, supporting other faculty/staff members, and can self-reflect on their own practice.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Graphic Design (30%):
- Create promotional printed posters, one-sheets, booklets, and programs;Â
- Create social media graphics; andÂ
- Supply marketing vendors with designed materials.Â
Email Communications (25%):
- Act as main administrator of Mailchimp;Â
- Send out regular communications to mass audiences; andÂ
- Design and produce e-blasts and rework templates as needed.Â
Branded Materials Production (20%):
- Create and order branded materials;Â
- Take stock of needs for swag in multiple departments; andÂ
- Design recruitment-specific printed materials for travel.Â
Publication/Promotional Materials Updates (20%):
- Work with multiple departments to update internal documents (e.g. Student Handbook).
Digital Asset Management (5%):
- Organize internal databases of digital assets, including press clippings and links.
Community Involvement & Engagement:
- Actively support the Student Life program by participating in community involvement opportunities that arise throughout the school year;Â
- Speak authentically about the imperative for community and belonging in schools; be committed to learning about and practicing anti-racist work;
Attend student performances, art openings, and art events throughout the year; support and engage richly in arts productions, shows, exhibitions, and performances; and
Attend Family Weekend, Open House, Class Night, Boar’s Head, Candlelight, Awards Ceremony, and Graduation; attend other events as required.
Collaboration, Professional Development, and Training:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across all departments to foster a positive working and educational environment for students and employees to support the School’s mission, vision, and core values;
- Attend and participate in all faculty and staff meetings and department meetings; participate and engage fully in individual reviews and evaluations; be open to feedback and work with supervisor to set goals and expectations for the future;
- Pursue PD opportunities in and out of school; display willingness and ability to grow, learn, explore new approaches, and practice self-reflection; and
- Perform other administrative or educational duties as assigned by the Head of School or his designee.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience;Â
- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in an integrated marketing/communications role;Â
- Proven success as a project manager and graphic designer;Â
- Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Canva;Â
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS and MailChimp;
- High standards for quality across a variety of media, and an ability to elicit the same from outside vendors;Â
- Able to work collaboratively with a diverse set of internal and external constituents;Â
- Comfortable thinking strategically and working tactically;Â
- An "ear to the ground" for new tools and opportunities to create and leverage unique content;Â
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;Â
- An ability to work independently, with acute attention to detail;Â
- Excellent computer skills including Google applications and Microsoft Office Suite;
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive community;
- Strong collaboration skills and work ethic; and
- Share an educational and artistic vision that aligns with the core principles of Walnut Hill.

Physical Demands:
Physical demands include dexterity for office machine and supply operation including but not limited to writing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, lifting, traveling to/from locations on campus or other locations, ascending/descending stairs, reaching, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
