Job Description

 

SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in San Diego, CA shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire an Estimator.

 

Job Summary

We are seeking an Estimator who takes responsibility for processing compliant cost estimates. This role follows standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce accurate cost estimates based on work scope, specifications, and contractual requirements. The position requires ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and compliance with all Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Following company processes to analyze project requirements, plans, and specifications for preparation of compliant estimates
  • Evaluate and incorporate performance data into detailed cost estimates, including labor hours and material costs
  • Analyze, review, and get approval on all proposals and budget preparations
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of the shipbuilding industry, including trends that impact our business operation and profitability
  • Strategically manage stakeholder expectations through the proposal process
  • Perform detailed analyses to prepare cost estimates and calculate gross profit margins, ensuring alignment with our company goals.

 

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of practices and procedures for developing, preparing, and forecasting cost estimates
  • Aware of general specifications for overhaul of surface ships (GSO)
  • Proficient knowledge of Tech Flushing (MRG/CPP/SSDG), Tank Flushing (ECW, CHILL WTR, LPAIR), system drawings (rip out/install), system tech manuals (oil capacity)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills to present accurate estimates
  • Knowledge of Shipyard Repair Industry regulations and standards (Rank, 009-09, 107,71,6,57)
  • 1 year working federal government contracts or like industry

 

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Predominantly seated occasionally standing and walking to access different areas of the office
  • Frequent typing on a keyboard, mouse clicking, and other hand movements associated with computer use
  • Close-up focus on computer screens for extended periods, requiring good visual acuity
  • Able and willing to follow all applicable site and company safety procedures

 

Other requirements:

All positions require a pre-employment medical test. This employer participates in E-Verify. Must be able to qualify for DBIDS security clearance. Ability to read technical English is a must. U.S. Citizenship is preferred (for some work locations it is required). Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
