Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Development Engineer to join our team. Bigbelly is pursuing an ambitious development roadmap and this position plays a visible role as the company launches new products and initiatives. It is expected that the evolving needs of the growing engineering organization will lead to new opportunities for personal and professional growth. 

In this role you will be engineering our products through their development and launch, as well as ongoing sustaining engineering.  As a part of that, you will be expected to be very hands-on as we build and test validation samples of our designs. You will have concrete success stories where you yourself have built and evaluated your designs.  Ideally you have experience developing, launching, and improving successful products that incorporate sheet metal, molded plastics, electronics, and batteries to create an entire systems solution.  You will also have a proven track record of analyzing quality and performance data, sleuthing to the root cause(s) of issues, and identifying improvement opportunities. As a member of the Engineering Team, you will be working closely with Bigbelly’s global manufacturing team, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to bring our designs to life with excellence. 

Requirements

 Responsibilities

  • Develop production-ready engineering solutions for new products that have completed advanced development explorations
  • Technical lead for new product start-of-production
  • Contribute innovative ideas and solutions to drive performance advantages in Bigbelly products
  • Understand how engineering decisions during development impact the Bigbelly business
  • Triage field issues, determine root cause, and implement solutions
  • Support the Bigbelly Supply Chain Team with vendor selection/qualification, part validation, and cost estimating
  • Support the certification of our products for global distribution
  • Be a supporting technical resource for the Account Management and Customer Support teams.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency using SolidWorks 3D CAD design software 
  • Proficiency using PDM/PLM tools (SolidWorks and Arena preferred)
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with common shop tools and mechanical assembly techniques
  • Proficiency building prototypes to evaluate and test design concepts
  • Good problem-solving skills (statistical experiment design experience preferred)
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to be on-site at headquarters in Needham, MA, full-time
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (graduate degree preferred) 
  • 7+ years of experience developing systems products
