JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION:            Lifeguard, Treehouse Summer Camp

FLSA:                    Non Exempt

REPORTS TO:      Treehouse Supervisors & Manager

 

 

SUMMARY: While on duty, the lifeguard must monitor the water at all times, ensuring the safety of the campers. The water watching shifts may include both short and long periods of time on the lifeguard stand. Lifeguards are also responsible for monitoring appropriate behavior amongst campers while in the water. When not on shift or watching the water, lifeguards will work directly with Camp Wintergreen programming to provide support to our campers and other counselors. Additional camp duties include supervised playground time, hiking, arts & crafts, science experiments, trips to Discovery Ridge Adventure Center and eating lunch and snacks with the campers.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Smile and greet campers and their families in a friendly manner
  • Assist with secure morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures
  • Report to work on time and prepared for all scheduled shifts.
  • Must be in uniform at all times.
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week.
  • Identify and respond to behavior issues.
  • Ensure that the building is kept clean.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for the children’s’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Promoting and encouraging water safety prior to departing the building for any swimming activities
  • Camp Wintergreen lifeguards will be responsible for checking the water for any hazards prior to children entering the water
  • Camp Wintergreen lifeguards will monitor swimming tests prior to any children entering the deep end of the outdoor pool.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic record-keeping and report-writing.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Superior customer service skills are required.
  • Previous experience in a camp or childcare setting is preferred.
  • Must have current Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications or be able to attain certification before the start of the season.
  • Ability to answer all questions and take messages over the phone from guests and other resort personnel.


LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Must have Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications up to date


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to work outside in the sun for extended periods of time in a warm and sometimes humid climate.
  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends and evenings.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs in the water
