Job DetailsJob Location: New Baltimore, MI 48047Job Shift: DayJob Summary: The Design Engineer is a key member of the engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and testing new products, components, or systems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to translate design concepts into innovative and manufacturable solutions. Duties/Responsibilities: Product Design and Development: Design and develop new products, components, or systems from concept to production, using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software and other engineering tools. Generate detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation to support manufacturing, assembly, and testing processes. Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate design concepts and make informed design decisions. Prototype Development and Testing: Build prototypes and conduct prototype testing to validate design concepts, functionality, and performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify design improvements and optimization opportunities based on prototype testing results. Iterate on designs based on feedback from prototype testing and refine designs to meet performance, quality, and cost targets. Design: Ensure that designs are optimized for manufacturability and assembly, considering factors such as materials, manufacturing processes, and cost. Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to address design issues, resolve manufacturing constraints, and streamline production processes. Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to ensure that DFM and DFA principles are incorporated into the design process. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing, to ensure alignment of design efforts with overall project goals and objectives. Communicate design concepts, requirements, and recommendations effectively to stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Participate in design meetings, project reviews, and brainstorming sessions to contribute ideas and insights to the design process. Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to product design and engineering. Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in product design, engineering processes, and tools. Proactively seek feedback from customers, end-users, and internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and innovation in product design and development. QualificationsCompetencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.   Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field (required. Proven experience in design engineering roles, with a track record of success in designing and developing products, components, or systems. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., ArtiosCAD) and other engineering tools and software. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to translate design concepts into practical and innovative solutions. Physical Requirements: May have prolonged periods of sitting at a desk. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
