Methodist Home for Children (MHC) is looking for a Transitional Living Specialist to join our team in New Bern, NC. About the Program
Our Transitional Living Home provides a safe, structured, supportive environment for male youth who are on probation and cannot safely return home. During their typical 6–12 month stay, residents work toward important milestones such as:
- Completing their education
- Developing career and employment goals
- Finding and maintaining employment
- Earning a driver's license
- Learning to budget and manage money
- Preparing meals and managing household responsibilities
- Developing the skills needed for successful independent living
What You'll Do
As a Transitional Living Specialist, you will serve as a case manager, mentor, advocate, and resource connector for residents.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide comprehensive case management and individualized support to residents.
- Develop and monitor goals related to education, employment, independent living, and successful transition to adulthood.
- Help residents identify and pursue education, career, and vocational opportunities.
- Coordinate Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings and collaborate with families, probation staff, schools, employers, service providers, and other community partners.
- Maintain accurate documentation and monitor each resident's progress.
- Develop individualized transition plans to prepare residents for successful discharge.
- Connect residents with community resources, employment opportunities, educational programs, and other supports.
- Serve as a consistent mentor and positive role model while helping youth develop confidence, responsibility, and independence.
- Provide aftercare services for up to six months following placement to help residents maintain progress and successfully transition into the community.

We are looking for someone who is:
- At least 21 years old
- A college graduate with a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Education, or a related field
- Experienced working with youth or a similar population; at least two years of relevant experience is required
- Comfortable communicating with families, professionals, community partners, and youth
- Organized and able to manage documentation, deadlines, and multiple priorities
- Patient, dependable, and able to establish positive relationships with young people
- Able to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
- A licensed driver with a clean driving record
