The Director of Firm Operations is responsible for driving operational excellence and executing the firm's strategic vision. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this position serves as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director and Partners, providing leadership across firm operations, financial performance, process improvement, technology initiatives, and organizational development.   This role calls for genuine interest in leveraging technology to improve firm operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable with various software platforms, stays curious and adaptable, and proactively identifies opportunities to use automation, data, and emerging tools to streamline processes, boost productivity, and enhance the employee and client experience. A willingness to learn and optimize technology will be key to the firm's growth. Working collaboratively with firm leadership and department heads, the Director of Firm Operations ensures the firm operates efficiently, supports exceptional client service, and positions the organization for continued growth. Key Responsibilities Operations & Process Excellence Provide leadership and oversight of the firm's day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient workflows, effective resource allocation, and exceptional client service. Collaborate with department leaders to optimize workflow management, staffing capacity, and operational effectiveness. Lead continuous process improvement initiatives and implement best practices that promote efficiency, quality, and consistency across the firm. Partner with technology leadership to implement systems and automation that improve productivity and operational performance. Ensure the firm maintains effective operational policies, procedures, and compliance with professional and regulatory requirements. Financial & Business Performance Monitor operational and financial performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide meaningful reporting and insights to firm leadership. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, manage costs, and support the firm's profitability goals. Oversee operational aspects of billing, accounts receivable, and collections in partnership with firm leadership. Support budgeting, financial planning, and resource management initiatives. Talent & Organizational Development Partner with Human Resources and department leaders on workforce planning, talent development, leadership succession, and employee engagement. Support department leaders in building high-performing teams and fostering collaboration across the firm. Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and exceptional client service that reflects the firm's core values. Firm Leadership Partner with the Managing Director and Partners to execute the firm's strategic initiatives and long-term business objectives. Translate strategic priorities into actionable operational plans that support growth, scalability, and profitability. Serve as a advisor to firm leadership on operational planning, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement. Lead firmwide initiatives that strengthen operational performance and enhance the client and employee experience. Participate in leadership meetings, strategic planning sessions, and firm committees. Foster strong communication and collaboration between leadership and operational teams. Stay informed of emerging trends and best practices within the public accounting profession to support continuous organizational growth. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Management, or a related field. Seven or more years of progressive leadership experience in operations, administration, or business management, preferably within a CPA firm or professional services organization. Demonstrated success leading organizational change, process improvement, and cross-functional initiatives. Financial and business acumen, including experience managing operational metrics and performance. Proven ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and lead through collaboration. Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Experience implementing technology solutions and leveraging automation to improve operational efficiency is highly desirable.
