QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree preferred or four years related experience.
  • Required: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Required: Ability to apply knowledge of the special needs of HSC and its patients.
  • Preferred: Healthcare or volunteer administration experience.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of relational database systems including volunteer management programs.
  • JOB SUMMARY

  • The Volunteer and Community Relations Coordinator is a member of an interdisciplinary team and is responsible for representing Hospital for Special Care with diverse community constituencies, identifying volunteer needs, recruiting prospective volunteers and coordinating the activities of volunteers to enhance the organization’s programs and services.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently works at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently conducts business via telephone.
  • Frequently changes positions and moves from one area of the hospital to another.
  • Occasionally carries or pushes cart with boxes/materials for projects weighing less than 20lbs.
  • Occasionally stands for extended periods of time.

  • Position requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning and adaptability. Quick decision-making on issues with significant organizational impact is required. A high degree of selective attention, discernment, perception and concentration is necessary.
  • Position requires a high degree of writing proficiency and attention to detail, adherence to all elements of style and ability to express self clearly.
  • Position requires a high level of communication skill including expression of abstract/complex ideas, use of negotiation, active listening and the ability to dialogue with multiple parties.

  • This position requires working within a pleasant climate-controlled environment. The position requires both the flexibility of independent work as well as team efforts. Occasionally flexibility in schedule changes may be needed to accommodate fluctuation in business needs. The position requires working with and being able to meet constant and often times multiple deadlines.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Recruit, screen, train, performance manage and support HSC volunteers. Provide and track continuing education to meet the mandatory and professional development requirement.
  • Supervise and coordinate volunteer’s activities so that service delivery is performed according to the organization's mission, policies and procedures and core values.
  • Manages volunteer records, keeping them up to date with required information. Ensures accurate documentation of volunteer hours, in each category (patient care, indirect patient care, bereavement, administrative, and other).
  • Represents HSC with internal and external constituents and stakeholders to support community relations, encourage referrals of potential volunteers and provide in-service education on selected topics.
  • Assist in planning and implementing all HSC and affiliate events in coordination with the development and communications department, event committees and corporate sponsors.
