Responsibilities

  • Works independently in providing various clerical services to the unit.
  • Works collaboratively with many departments to schedule patient tests and appointments to expedite patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Contacts and interacts with other facilities in order to arrange appointments, tests or transfers.
  • May monitor telemetry rhythms for pertinent changes in cardiac rhythms and keeps nurse informed of life threatening arrhythmias.
  • Monitors blood pressure and oxygen sats and report changes to appropriate nurse.
  • Records pertinent patient information in the clinical record.
  • May assist with basic patient needs as necessary.
  • Consistently acts as a focus of communication for internal/external customer service.
  • Performs computer operations accurately and efficiently.
  • Initiates and maintains admission, discharge and transfer information.
  • Responsible for accurately entering charges.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and write well enough to follow detailed procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment and ability to type.
  • Ability to read telemetry monitor strips and interpret life threatening arrhythmic conditions.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology helpful.
  • This level of education requires at least a high school education.
  • Six to twelve months of clinical/clerical experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
