Responsibilities

  • Works under general supervision in preparing and maintaining the sterile operative area of the patient before, during, and after operation. 
  • Places equipment and supplies in OR according to surgeon's preference cards. 
  • Assists during surgery in a number of ways such as to don gowns and gloves, adjust surgical equipment, hand surgeon instruments, hold retractors and count sponges, needles, and instruments used during the operation. 
  • Keep surgeons preference card information current. 
  • Able to clean, decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies. 
  • Cross trained to function adequately in C.S. and receiving and decontamination.

Qualifications

  • Work requires proficiency in the application of sterile procedures in an operating room setting.
  • Requires graduation from a surgical technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation.
  • Work requires immediate response to emergency procedures which requires individual to respond within thirty minutes to the Hospital, as well as have a phone.
  • Two years experiences is preferred.
