Position Description:

We鈥檙e looking for a Senior Software Engineer (III) with strong Python expertise and a track record building software that interacts with hardware, Linux-based platforms, and networked systems. This role will contribute across device-side applications, services, and supporting tools used to develop, deploy, and operate connected retail and restaurant technology products.

You鈥檒l work closely with cross-functional partners (firmware, hardware, cloud, QA, and product) to deliver robust, diagnosable, and maintainable systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between system-level debugging (Linux, networking, logs) and product-facing experiences, and has an interest in building intuitive front-end tools for configuration, monitoring, and diagnostics.

Position Location: New Hartford, New York or Remote, United States

Reports To: Sr. Director of Engineering

What We鈥檙e Looking For:

路 6+ years of professional software development experience, including substantial Python development.

路 Strong experience developing on Linux (processes, services/daemons, systems, logging, packaging).

路 Experience building networked systems: TCP/IP fundamentals, sockets, HTTP/REST, secure communications (TLS), and debugging network issues.

路 Experience designing and shipping software for hardware-adjacent or device-integrated environments (edge computing, peripherals, gateways, appliances, or similar).

路 Front-end UI development experience using modern frameworks such as React, and Angular and/or meta-frameworks.

路 Solid software engineering fundamentals: API design, test strategy, code reviews, CI/CD, and maintainable architecture.

路 Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional environments.

路 Demonstrated experience in and comfort with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, unit testing, debug, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacturing.

Additional skills:

路 IoT/edge experience: device onboarding/provisioning, fleet management concepts, secure update flows, telemetry, and observability.

路 Familiarity with common IoT protocols and patterns (e.g., MQTT, WebSockets), and message-driven architectures.

路 Background in DSP and audio applications (audio pipelines, latency/echo/noise considerations, streaming/codec basics).

路 Experience with real-time or performance-sensitive systems and profiling on Linux.

路 Exposure to hardware communication interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI, USB) and/or integration with embedded firmware teams.

Unleash your potential: What you will be doing and owning:

路 Design, implement, and maintain Python-based services and tooling that support connected retail/restaurant technology products.

路 Build and support software running on Linux-based hardware platforms (edge devices /appliances), including service lifecycle management, logging, and resilience.

路 Develop and integrate network communication layers (REST APIs, eventing, secure connectivity) for device-to-device and device-to-service interactions.

路 Create internal and/or customer-facing web UIs for configuration, monitoring, diagnostics, and operational workflows using standard frameworks (e.g., React/Next.js, Vue, Angular).

路 Partner with firmware and hardware teams to define interfaces, test strategies, and diagnostic hooks that enable rapid troubleshooting and stable releases.

路 Improve engineering velocity by enhancing developer tools, test harnesses, CI pipelines, and automated verification where appropriate.

路 Establish strong observability patterns: logs, metrics, traces, crash capture, and actionable field diagnostics.

路 Participate in architectural reviews, code reviews, and technical mentorship of junior engineers.
