FlexStaff is seeking an experienced Financial Controller with a current CPA certification for a permanent opportunity with one of our external clients, a leading food distribution and logistics company based in the Bronx, NY.

In this role, you will lead the accounting function, oversee financial reporting, and partner with the CFO and executive leadership team to support strategic decision-making across a complex, operations-driven business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 

  • CPA required 

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or similar leadership role 

  • Experience in eCommerce, retail, grocery, supply chain, or PE-backed company preferred

  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the accounting team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement 

  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accurate US GAAP financial reporting 

  • Provide reporting and variance analysis to executive leadership and key stakeholders 

  • Partner with the CFO and cross-functional teams on budgeting, forecasting, and business performance 

  • Strengthen internal controls and compliance to protect assets and meet audit and regulatory requirements 

  • Streamline and automate accounting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability 

  • Manage external audit and tax functions, including corporate, sales, and use tax filings 

  • Establish accounting policies and procedures to support standardization and long-term growth
