POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Healthcare Assistant plays a critical support role within the Residential Networks by collaborating closely with Registered Nurses (RNs), Team Leaders, Associate Directors, Network Directors, and clerical personnel. This position ensures the timely completion of medical documentation, supports the coordination of healthcare services, and helps maintain high-quality care standards for individuals receiving services.

 

Hours: M-F 8:30-5

Location: New Lenox

Pay: $20.50/hour

 

NETWORK OR DEPARTMENT:

Network 3

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Track, schedule, and coordinate medical appointments in alignment with annual health requirements and emergent medical needs.
  • Maintain consistent communication with Network leadership regarding medical updates, benefits, and follow-up actions for individuals served.
  • Review Medication Administration Records (MAR) weekly to generate and submit medication error reports.
  • Assist the RN with medication check-in and ensure proper logging and documentation.
  • Perform tracking, filing, and documentation review tasks as assigned, maintaining organized and up-to-date records.
  • Support the RN with healthcare assessments and complete Health Risk Screening Tool (HRST) documentation.
  • Receive and coordinate timely medication deliveries for individuals supported within the network.
  • Ensure all medical providers have current insurance information on file. Troubleshoot and resolve any benefit-related issues or discrepancies.
  • Provide backup coverage for the Transportation Coordinator, including scheduling and tracking.
  • Upload and maintain employee training documentation in the electronic filing system.
  • Keep the Administrative file folder updated and organized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including answering phones, processing new hire paperwork, and other administrative tasks.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist without assistance.
  • Push and pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Complete deep knee squats and push wheelchairs up to 200 pounds.
  • Remain in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for extended periods.
  • Operate motor vehicles as needed.
  • Engage in physical activities such as driving, climbing, crouching, reaching, lifting, stooping, crawling, grasping, kneeling, and repetitive motion.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

 

  • Preferred Education/Experience: LPN, Medical Assistant certification, or an Associate Degree in a health-related field.
  • Preferred Experience: At least one year working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or mental illness.
  • Skills Required:
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication.
    • Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency in computer applications and electronic health records.
