Summary of Job Responsibilities: Assess, monitor, treat, and care for neonatal patients requiring respiratory interventions.
- Provides advanced airway management, may include intubation.
- Assume primary responsibility (select, assemble, monitor and manage) for respiratory care modalities including invasive and non-invasive ventilation, bubble cpap, and high frequency oscillator and jet ventilation.
- Medication administration via nebulizer and intratracheally (surfactant administration) and medical gases (Nitric Oxide)
- Initiate and conduct therapeutic treatments/procedures such as aerosol therapy, airway clearance, and secretion mobilization.
- Attends and is an active team member for high-risk deliveries and neonatal rapid response codes,
- Blood gas acquisition and analysis
- Communicates with the care team by making recommendations based on patient's lung compliance, response to therapy, and laboratory/xray results; recommendations include initiation, escalation, de-escalation, and discontinuation
- Documents work efficiently and accurately in the patient medical record and department records and assures all patient billing is complete.
- Provide clinical precepting of new team members or students, as needed.
- Communicate with patient鈥檚 families, providing education regarding respiratory care being provided and/or in preparation for discharge.
- Participate in quality improvement projects
Requirements: Registered Respiratory Therapist. Licensed in the state of Illinois. CPR. NRP certification. Level 3 NICU experience required. NPS preferred or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire.
