Job Purpose

The Auto Technician supports the Vehicle Program by diagnosing and repairing fleet and donated vehicles efficiently and accurately. This role ensures vehicles meet state and federal requirements, maintains accurate documentation, supports production operations, and contributes to a safe, clean, and mission-aligned work environment while providing quality internal and external customer service

Essential Functions

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in fleet and donated vehicles
  • Perform quality automotive and small-engine repairs in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Complete required production, regulatory, and inventory documentation accurately and timely
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment
  • Support production operations and teamwork across the Vehicle Program

Job Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Diagnostics & Repair
    • Diagnose and repair vehicle systems including engine repair, automatic transmission, manual drivetrain and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, engine performance, and exhaust systems
    • Fabricate parts, tools, or accessories as needed to complete repairs
    • Perform limited small-engine repairs, including power sports, tractors, and marine applications
  • Production & Operational Support
    • Serve as a backup for other production roles (e.g., Auto Technician, Lot Technician) as needed
    • Assist with Work Experience Program (WEP) students
    • Propose improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, teamwork, and customer service
  • Customer Service & Communication
    • Assist with purchased donations and related paperwork
    • Communicate completed repairs clearly, accurately, and professionally to internal and external customers
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Comply with all federal and state regulations, as well as Rawhide and Vehicle Program policies and procedures
    • Assist in identifying, investigating, and resolving safety concerns
  • Inventory & Recordkeeping
    • Monitor inventory levels and purchase needed tools and supplies
    • Research vendors and sources to control costs
    • Complete required paperwork, data entry, and production records
  • Maintain Professional and Technical Knowledge
    • Completing required trainings
    • Attending educational workshops
    • Reviewing professional publications
  • Establish Personal Networks
    • Participating in professional societies
  • Protects the Credibility of the Rawhide Mission
    • Complying with the Rawhide standard of conduct
    • Setting an example, in words and actions, that is consistent with the values and beliefs of Rawhide

    • Performing other duties as directed or assigned by supervisor

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience as an automotive technician, mechanic, or in a related field
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing vehicles
  • Strong administrative, documentation, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a production-focused environment

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in a vehicle shop environment
  • This role may require standing, bending, lifting, and use of tools and equipment
  • Exposure to noise, fumes, and mechanical equipment consistent with automotive repair work
  • Occasional work with students and cross-functional teams
