Position Summary
The ISO Gate Inspector inspects intermodal shipping containers at the gate, documenting their condition and verifying compliance with ISO standards, safety regulations, and company policies. This role helps ensure that only safe, serviceable containers are accepted or released.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspect incoming and outgoing shipping containers for damage, defects, and cleanliness.
Verify container identification numbers, seals, and documentation.
Record inspection findings using handheld devices or computer systems.
Identify structural damage such as dents, holes, corrosion, or faulty doors.
Ensure containers meet ISO and customer quality standards.
Communicate inspection results to drivers, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
Report safety hazards and follow all workplace safety procedures.
Coordinate with gate operations to maintain efficient traffic flow.
Updates electronic equipment tracking systems.
Ensures equipment is in proper working order and documents inspections of equipment, reports discrepancies.
Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures for role.
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
Understand and use computerized maintenance systems.
Communicate effectively with others, especially with Dispatchers and Drivers to ensure production and customer needs are met.
Always follow safety procedures and promote a safe environment for you and your fellow employees.
Comply with established ISO standards when required.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar position
Possess and maintain current certification in the operations of required forklift and related equipment
Adequate computer skills
Ability to learn quickly and attention to detail
Good communication skills
Preferred experience in driving and operating a container lift
Essential Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous experience in container inspection, logistics, warehousing, or transportation is a plus.
Knowledge of ISO container standards is preferred but can often be learned on the job.
Basic computer and data-entry skills.
Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, rainy, etc.).
Dependable transportation is required as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule if required (scheduled or unscheduled overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays).
Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass required Sentry Roads safety training examinations, and all pre-employment screenings i.e., drug screen.
Physical Demands:
Position requires manual dexterity and the ability to maintain physical activity throughout the day:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and hold or lift a variety of objects.
Able to carry, bend, stoop, turn, kneel, crawl, climb a ladder and other manual labor activities.
Ability to operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Work Environment:
This position is likely to involve duties conducted in and around the grounds of a warehousing and shipping environment.
This position involves working alongside heavy transportation related equipment
