JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing high-quality nursing oversight for individuals receiving medical services within the Residential Services Division, including Canal Pointe, Community Living Services, Medical Respite, and Supportive Living Services, where clinical oversight is required.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for ensuring quality medical oversight through activities that include, but are not limited to, reviewing medical evaluations, laboratory results, and treatment recommendations; consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals; observing and coaching direct support staff; monitoring medication administration practices; and performing other related duties as assigned. The RN works to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, promote best practices, and support positive health outcomes for the individuals served.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provided in-service training to staff and individualized health education to individuals and caregivers regarding medical conditions, medications, treatment plans, and health promotion as appropriate.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call coverage as needed.
  • Evacuate during hurricane season with the agency and reside on-site with residents and staff.
  • Assist with the completion and maintenance of all required documentation including initial, annual, quarterly, and change-of-condition nursing assessments, health plans, intakes, investigations, and other meetings for each consumer in the EHR and other platforms as assigned. Documentation is to be timely and accurate under the policy and procedures of the programs.
  • Supervise LPN(s) and other staff as assigned.
  • Perform routine charting duties as required. (i.e., discharge from hospital, admission to hospital, incidents with residents, change in behavior or diagnosis.)
  • Accurately transcribe physician’s orders per program protocol and notify other departments if necessary.
  • To Manage Pharmacy correspondence.
  • Perform CMA course, authorizations, competency, and monitor medication administration and noncomplex tasks performed by non-licensed medical staff.
  • Assist with the development of the annual plans, intakes, other meetings, surveys, and investigations, as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Review incidents involving medical concerns, complete clinical follow-up, and recommend corrective action as appropriate.
  • Assist in care coordination in all programs as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:

  • Must have graduated from an accredited Nursing program and be licensed by the State of Louisiana as a registered nurse.
  • Required to have at least two years of nursing experience.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be licensed as a Registered Nurse and to be in good standing with the Nursing Board of Louisiana.
  • Must have a valid Louisiana Driver’s license and be insurable under the VOA/GNO, Inc.’s vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history investigation
  • Able to obtain Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, pushing, bending, squatting, lifting, and pulling. May be required to assist in moving consumers weighing up to 200lbs. Other physical requirements include:

  • The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to transport oneself and program supplies as necessary.
  • Move and lift light objects to 30 pounds, such as mail, supplies, files, and equipment.
  • Operate office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. Required to assist in moving or transferring consumers.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle to multiple sites per day, or as required, in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
