JOB Title: TRANSPORTATION PLANNER

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT

SALARY RANGE: $66,650-$75,000 annually (Position may be filled at the senior level based on candidate qualifications)

JOB SUMMARY


The Transportation Planner administers the development and maintenance of short- and long-range transit service plans, coordinating work within the RTA and with external partner agencies. The incumbent will assist in the development, planning, implementation, and review of existing and proposed transit routes, prepare information and submit information for the Title VI Annual Report, serve as project manager for special projects and coordinate land use and design review with outside agencies, and provide assistance in the strategic planning for bus and rail service integration.

  • Serve as Project Manager for assigned projects and studies, overseeing the work effort and the management of consultants and contractors.
  • Lead preparation of the agency’s Title VI report and assist the agency in its efforts to maintain Title VI compliance.
  • Monitor, review, and contribute to the maintenance and updating of transit elements of the regional short and long-range transportation plan.
  • Coordinate research and analysis into alternative transit systems planning.
  • Coordinate with local and regional governmental and non-governmental agencies and partners on transit-related projects.
  • Assist in the maintenance of data files and transit planning resource materials.
  • Prepare documents and reports for internal and external purposes.
  • Conduct required background research and data collection to support recommendations for new service, service modifications, and service discontinuations.
  • Prepare maps and other geographic analyses of ridership, socio-economic trends, and other transit-related data.
  • Conduct, compile, and summarize data including ridership, passenger overloads, service reliability, and customers' input to support recommendations for service modifications, and prepare related charts and reports.
  • Prepare maps and databases and develop analysis using advanced Geographical Information Systems.
  • Present findings and recommendations to staff and/or outside agencies.
  • Assist with departmental efforts to develop materials to communicate and implement transit service.
  • Respond to customer comments and/or requests regarding transit services.
  • Provide staff support and coordinate various projects with other departments and divisions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, engineering, or related field. 5 years’ experience in transit, transportation, urban planning, or a related field.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Master’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, engineering, or related field.


LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS

A valid Louisiana Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out essential functions

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 70% of the time. Constantly operates a computer or other office productivity machinery, such as a copier, computer, printer, etc. Occasionally moves boxes up to 15 pounds.
