Essential Function:   

Ā 

The Licensedphysicaltherapistassistantisresponsibleforadministeringtherapeuticproceduresortreatmentsbasedonthephysicaltherapist'sevaluationandplanofcare. Contributestodepartmentaladvancementthroughparticipationinin-serviceattendance/presentationaswellasthroughconstructivesuggestions, participationinplanningactivitiesandprogramdevelopment.

Demonstratesprofessionaltreatmentskills:   

  • Performsanddocumentstreatmentbasedontheshort- andlong-termgoalsestablishedbyevaluatingphysicaltherapist.  
  • With guidance of the supervising PT, selectstreatmenttechniquesandmodalitiesthatwillfacilitateachievementofthegoalsfor all patients.   
  • Structuresthetreatmentsessionaccordingtothepatient’sage, diagnosis, needs,behavioral response andfamily or caretaker involvementincludingphysicalenvironment, verbalreinforcement/instructionandbehaviormodificationasneeded.  
  • Demonstratesproficiencyinvarioustreatmenttechniquesincludingneurodevelopmental, orthopedicandtherapeuticexerciseapproaches, usingequipmentandresourcesavailableinthedepartment.  
  • Adjuststreatmentaccordingtoprecautionsandcontraindications.  
  • Adjustsdailytreatmentplanbasedonassessmentofpatient’sresponsetotreatmentandconsultsphysicaltherapistasneeded. * Assessment techniquesincluderangeofmotion (goniometry), strength (manualmuscletesting), tone, physiologicalresponse, etc.  
  • Interpretspertinentinformationfrommedicalcharts, physicians, parents, patient, other Allied Health professionals, school, caretakers, andanyotherstofacilitatetreatment. Notifiesphysicaltherapistasindicated.  

  

Demonstratesprofessionaldocumentationskills:   

  • Completesdocumentation and submits charges afterprovidingtreatmentwithindefinedtimelineandturnsincharges.  
  • Manages therapy visits and coordinates with PT when a supervisory visit is required (each 6th visit or every thirty days)   

Participatesindepartmental/self-development:   

  • Providesconstructivesuggestionsforimprovementindepartmentoperations.  
  • Actsasclinicalinstructorforatleastone PTA studentperyear (afterfirstyearofexperience).  
  • Demonstratesethicalpracticeatalltimesaccordingtostandardsestablishedbythe American PhysicalTherapy Association andLCMC Health.Ā
