Essential Function:  

The Licensedphysicaltherapistassistantisresponsibleforadministeringtherapeuticproceduresortreatmentsbasedonthephysicaltherapist'sevaluationandplanofcare. Contributestodepartmentaladvancementthroughparticipationinin-serviceattendance/presentationaswellasthroughconstructivesuggestions, participationinplanningactivitiesandprogramdevelopment. 

Demonstratesprofessionaltreatmentskills:  

Performsanddocumentstreatmentbasedontheshort- andlong-termgoalsestablishedbyevaluatingphysicaltherapist.

With guidance of the supervising PT, selectstreatmenttechniquesandmodalitiesthatwillfacilitateachievementofthegoalsfor all patients.

Structuresthetreatmentsessionaccordingtothepatient’sage, diagnosis, needs,behavioral response andfamily or caretaker involvementincludingphysicalenvironment, verbalreinforcement/instructionandbehaviormodificationasneeded.

Demonstratesproficiencyinvarioustreatmenttechniquesincludingneurodevelopmental, orthopedicandtherapeuticexerciseapproaches, usingequipmentandresourcesavailableinthedepartment.

Adjuststreatmentaccordingtoprecautionsandcontraindications.

Adjustsdailytreatmentplanbasedonassessmentofpatient’sresponsetotreatmentandconsultsphysicaltherapistasneeded. * Assessment techniquesincluderangeofmotion (goniometry), strength (manualmuscletesting), tone, physiologicalresponse, etc.

Interpretspertinentinformationfrommedicalcharts, physicians, parents, patient, other Allied Health professionals, school, caretakers, andanyotherstofacilitatetreatment. Notifiesphysicaltherapistasindicated.

Demonstratesprofessionaldocumentationskills:  

Completesdocumentation and submits charges afterprovidingtreatmentwithindefinedtimelineandturnsincharges.

Manages therapy visits and coordinates with PT when a supervisory visit is required (each 6th visit or every thirty days)

Participatesindepartmental/self-development:  

Providesconstructivesuggestionsforimprovementindepartmentoperations.

Actsasclinicalinstructorforatleastone PTA studentperyear (afterfirstyearofexperience).

Demonstratesethicalpracticeatalltimesaccordingtostandardsestablishedbythe American PhysicalTherapy Association andLCMC Health.

Job Qualifications:  

Required:

Associate Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant
Basic Life Support/CPR

Physical Therapist Assistant License

Preferred:

1 year experience
