As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you believe in treating the whole person, and not just the disease or illness, going beyond nebulizers,Ā inhalersĀ and ventilators. Cardiopulmonary disorders are life-challenging and as a registered respiratory therapist, you understand arterial puncture or cannulation, artificial airwayĀ typesĀ and sizes, initial ventilatory settings for mechanical ventilation, ventilator changes based on established parameters and patient assignments to staff based on skills inventory. And as a compassionate human being, you empathize with the feeling of ā€œI can’t breatheā€ from a child suffering with asthma to an elderly patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.Ā Ā Ā

Your EverydayĀ 

DemonstrateĀ proficiencyĀ in critical and general care procedures including patient assessment, ventilator management, arterial punctures, code III response, bronchoscopyĀ assistance, intubation,Ā monitoringĀ equipment, airway management, endo/nasotracheal suctioning, and arterial line placement, aerosol therapy, IPPB, CPT, oxygen therapy, incentive spirometry,Ā aerochamber/inhaler, and peak flow meters.Ā 

Organize and set priorities while assuring safe operation of all equipment needed for patient care and procedures within the established guidelines andĀ timeframes.Ā 

Manage equipment/supply needs appropriately.Ā 

Demonstrate quality improvement commitment throughĀ accurateĀ monitoring, documentation, and incidents.Ā 

Participate in planning and problem solving.Ā 

Adhere to BSI policies at all times.Ā 

Perform treatments using asepticĀ techniqueĀ whenĀ required.Ā 

Follow,Ā instructĀ and enforce others on infection control policies and procedures.Ā 

Maintain a safe environment for everyone recognizing andĀ taking action to correctĀ unsafe conditionsĀ utilizingĀ proper channels of communication.Ā 

Communicate informationĀ regardingĀ treatments ensuring patient’s or family members understanding, comprehension and active participation.Ā

Minimum:Ā 

Licensed Respiratory Therapist - Louisiana State Board of Medical ExaminersĀ 

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)Ā Ā 

Current American Heart Association (BLS, CPR) certifications.Ā Ā Ā Ā 

Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.Ā 

Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.Ā
