Position Summary
The Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Technician (aka Quality Assurance Technician) supports the implementation, monitoring, and verification of the facility’s SQF certified food safety and quality management system. This role is responsible for conducting inspections, monitoring controls, reviewing records, and supporting compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal food safety requirements. The FSQA Technician works in coordination with operations while complying with OSHA safety requirements. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
Essential Functions

Food Safety & Quality Monitoring (SQF – Verification & Validation)
- Conduct routine food safety and quality inspections of production, preparation, sanitation, and material handling areas
- Monitor compliance with GMPs, hygiene, allergen controls, and sanitation programs
- Verify monitoring of Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Preventive Controls
- Perform in-process and finished product checks per quality plans
- Identify non-conformances and initiate corrective actions
Documentation & Record Review (SQF – Records & Documentation)
- Review production, CCP, sanitation, allergen, and traceability records for accuracy and completeness
- Ensure documentation is completed in real time and meets record retention requirements
- Maintain controlled QA forms and logs as required

Sampling, Testing & Verification Activities
- Collect product, environmental, and water samples according to approved sampling plans
- Perform or coordinate basic quality tests (e.g., weight checks, pH, temperature, visual inspection)
- Support environmental monitoring programs (EMP) and sanitation verification activities
- Properly label, store, and submit samples for laboratory testing
Regulatory & Program Compliance (SQF Alignment)
- Support compliance with FSMA Preventive Controls and regulatory requirements
- Assist with implementation of food safety plans, validations, and verifications
- Support traceability exercises, mock recalls, and complaint investigations
- Participate in internal audits and third-party certification audits
Training, Awareness & Communication
- Reinforce food safety, GMP, and hygiene requirements on the production floor
- Provide real-time feedback and coaching to operations personnel
- Escalate food safety risks or deviations to QA leadership immediately
Safety & Compliance (OSHA Awareness)
- Follow all OSHA and site safety requirements while performing QA activities
- Use required PPE when entering production or sanitation areas
- Observe and report unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel
Attendance & Reliability
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Work assigned schedules, including weekends or off-shifts as needed to support production
Marginal (Non-Essential) Functions
- Assist with data trending, reporting, or continuous improvement initiatives
- Support new product launches or process changes
- Perform other QA-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Ability to understand and apply food safety and quality requirements
- Ability to accurately complete inspections, documentation, and reports
- Ability to communicate findings clearly and professionally
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (associate or bachelor’s degree in food science or related field preferred)
- Prior experience in food safety, quality assurance, or food manufacturing
- Familiarity with SQF certification programs
- Basic knowledge of HACCP, Preventive Controls, and allergen management
Physical Demands (ADA-Compliant)
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout production and warehouse areas for extended periods
- Ability to climb stairs or ladders as required for inspections
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30–50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to visually inspect products, labels, equipment, and records
- Ability to communicate effectively in a production environment
Work Environment
- Food processing and manufacturing facility
- Exposure to machinery, noise, temperature variations, and production traffic
- Possible exposure to food allergens and sanitation chemicals
- PPE required, including hair restraints, protective clothing, gloves, and safety footwear
