Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) is seeking a Biopharma Specialist to shape and execute biopharma commercial strategy across the Americas (AMR). This strategic, field-based role focuses on building executive-level relationships, expanding adoption of ONT’s nanopore sequencing solutions across the drug development pipeline, and driving growth through collaboration, advocacy, and market intelligence.

You’ll work closely with regional commercial leadership and cross-functional teams (inside sales, marketing, technical teams, and others) to deliver territory targets while influencing product, marketing, and commercial planning with real-world market input.

What You’ll Do Strategic Planning & Commercial Execution

  • Partner with regional commercial and executive leadership to develop short- and long-term biopharma strategy aligned to growth targets and corporate priorities.
  • Lead execution of the regional strategy within your territory in partnership with account and technical teams.
  • Track performance vs. targets, report results, and implement adjustments to optimize outcomes.

Key Customer Engagement & Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with executives, KOLs, and key stakeholders aligned to ONT priorities.
  • Identify and sponsor strategic collaborations for application/method development and evaluation, from planning through implementation.
  • Promote and support customer advocacy and endorsement initiatives to expand ONT visibility and influence in biopharma.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

  • Gather real-time market intelligence (customer feedback, competitive activity, market dynamics).
  • Report current and projected performance plus market insights to local and executive stakeholders.
  • Provide external input to support product development, marketing strategy, and commercial planning.

Biopharma Segment Expertise

  • Serve as a local expert on biopharma market trends, dynamics, and applications; advise internal commercial teams.
  • Drive awareness of ONT technology in clinical-adjacent segments via customer seminars, 1:1 meetings, and internal knowledge-sharing.

  • Someone with strong market instincts who can translate customer needs and competitive signals into actionable strategy.
  • A proactive, strategic operator who is comfortable taking calculated risks, solving ambiguous problems, and delivering outcomes in a matrixed organization.
  • A confident communicator who can lead customer education, create advocates, and represent ONT credibly at the executive and scientific level.

What You Bring Qualifications / Education (Essential)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical or Life Sciences.

Experience (Essential)

  • Minimum of 5 years of expereince in a commercial role within the biopharma market, with a proven track record.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, executive-level customer relationships.
  • Established customer network across the drug development continuum (discovery → development → manufacturing/QC).
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with inside sales, running/leveraging marketing campaigns, prospecting, and collaborating across multiple cross-functional teams.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (Essential)

  • Strong understanding of the biopharma landscape, including adoption drivers and barriers.
  • In-depth knowledge of biopharma markets from discovery to manufacturing QC.
  • Familiarity with genomics technologies in biopharma settings and how nanopore sequencing features map to diverse applications.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and strong presentation capability.
  • Strong organization/time management; able to work independently under pressure in a matrixed sales/service environment.
  • Positive, self-starting attitude with a proactive, strategic mindset; creative problem-solver who thrives in dynamic environments.

Nice to Have (Desirable)

  • Master’s or PhD in Biomedical or Life Sciences.
  • Experience driving commercial growth in emerging markets.
  • Direct experience with biopharma testing workflows (sample to report).
  • Awareness of sequencing-based test development/validation challenges and region-specific market access requirements.
  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial market insight.

The salary for this role is between $112,764 and $170,000 USD . The salary offered will reflect the skills and experience of the candidate.  

Certain roles within ONT are eligible for annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance.
