Job Summary

Are you a seasoned technical expert in rail and transit communications who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges and elevating those around you? TYLin is seeking an accomplished Senior Transit Communications Engineer to lead the design and delivery of advanced communications systems for major transit and rail projects throughout New York, Philadelphia, and the Northeast.

This role is focused on technical excellence: you will leverage your deep knowledge of MTA, Amtrak, and regional transit communications systems to deliver safe, efficient, and innovative solutions. You will also mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance through a collaborative, hands-on approach that inspires confidence and fosters growth.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the technical lead for transit and rail communications systems, providing direction, oversight, and quality assurance across all phases of design and delivery.

  • Lead development of complex Operations Technology (OT) networks and communications systems, including:

    • Fiber infrastructure and backbone communications

    • Radio systems for signaling and operations

    • CCTV, security video, and monitoring systems

    • Passenger Information Systems (PIS) and digital signage

    • CAD/AVL systems

    • SCADA for traction power and train control

    • Physical Access Control Systems (PACS)

    • UPS and critical systems in communications/server rooms

    • Audio/visual systems and storage solutions

  • Develop and review contract drawings, technical specifications, and construction-phase deliverables, ensuring clarity, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.

  • Lead design reviews, evaluate technical criteria, and contribute to scopes of work, specifications, and standard drawings.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, bringing strong interpersonal skills to client interactions and internal coordination.

  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, curiosity, and technical rigor.

  • Support project management activities, including estimating, planning, and coordination, while preparing for future leadership roles in the communications discipline.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field (required)

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one (strongly preferred)

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in rail/transit communications, systems engineering, or electrical design

  • Deep technical knowledge of communications networks, OT systems, devices, and network security, with experience in MTA, Amtrak, or regional transit systems preferred

  • Proficiency with design tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or similar platforms

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust, motivate teams, and collaborate with staff at all levels

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $120,000 - $170,000 annually for this position and local market. We recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills, experience, education and competencies to the table that will be reflected in our offer.
