KPF is seeking a talented Environmental Designer passionate about sustainability and building performance to join our Environmental Performance (KPFep) team in NYC for a 2-3 month summer internship. The intern’s work time will focus on exploring how environmental modeling and simulation can have a direct impact on the design process, working directly with ongoing projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide environmental design support to KPF design teams on projects in concept, schematic, and development phases
- Research and visualize sustainability strategies for ongoing project work
- Analyze design options through climate, thermal, daylight, energy, and material simulations and present findings to teams
- Develop in-house resources including sustainable design precedents, guidelines, modeling tools, and graphics for the KPFep library
- Collaborate on firm-wide initiatives to accelerate adoption of sustainable design practices across 50+ NYC project teams
Qualifications:
Applicant must currently be enrolled in an accredited Undergraduate or Master Program (Architecture or Engineering), with a focus on Environmental/Sustainable Design, Building Science or Computational Design, and possess the following skills:
- Strong graphic, design and visualization skills, as well as good communication skills for working with design teams
- Proficiency with Rhino and Grasshopper scripting techniques
- Experience with thermal and daylight simulation tools within Rhino/GH, such as Climate Studio or Ladybug/Honeybee
- Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
- Basic computation/coding skills in C# and/or Python not required but desirable
- Familiarity with the LEED/WELL certification systems not required but desirable

This position requires you to be in person in our New York office 5 days per week.
Pay Range:
