Canyon seeks a full-time Accounting Manager to manage all financial record-keeping and accounting operations for the organization.

Who we are

Canyon is a new media art institution opening on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in fall 2026. Spanning approximately 40,000 square feet, the venue encompasses exhibition galleries, a 120-seat performance space, an 800-person event hall, a restaurant, bar, mezzanine café, and theater. Canyon presents two major exhibitions per year alongside a year-round program of live events, performances, screenings, and community programming.

Position Overview

The Accounting Manager reports to Canyon's Chief Operating Officer. This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day accounting functions, and ensuring fiscal integrity across all areas of the organization. The ideal candidate is pro-active, detail-oriented, and comfortable with standard accounting tasks in a professional environment. Initially a single-person operation, over time the position could become the lead in a growing department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable in a timely manner
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions monthly
  • Track and categorize expenses across multiple budget categories and projects
  • Coordinate payment requests and tracking with leadership
  • Manage employee expense reimbursements
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for management review
  • Support management with annual budget forecasting
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and coordinate with external accountants
  • Manage contributions, membership, and sales accounts, reconciling with departments monthly
  • Maintain organized filing systems for financial documentation

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial record-keeping
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Nonprofit or hospitality accounting experience
  • Familiarity with grant financial management and reporting
  • Knowledge of New York nonprofit financial requirements

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $90,000–$115,000, commensurate with experience.
