AFTERSCHOOL GROUP LEADER

 

 

We are excited to invite a passionate and dedicated Afterschool Group Leader to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an Afterschool Group Leader for our Families with Children facility located in the Soundview area of the Bronx. As the Afterschool Group Leader, you will lead and supervise engaging activities for children/youth ages 5–16, while creating a safe, structured, and supportive environment. You will plan and deliver lessons, organize recreational activities and field trips, and support special events that enrich and engage our children. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS: 

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage the classroom and provide direct supervision to ensure a safe, structured, and engaging environment for all children/youth.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Organize, attend, and supervise field trips.
  • Coordinate and supervise team games and sporting events.
  • Lead arts and crafts projects.
  • Ensure children’s safety, participation, and engagement in all assigned activities.
  • Assist with events, fairs, holiday celebrations, and theatrical plays.
  • Maintain schedule flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend trips/events as needed.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.  
  • At least two years of direct experience working with children under age 13 years.
  • Experience or demonstrated skills in STEM, dance, or the arts preferred.
  • Competency in youth development and childcare.
  • Group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and respectfully with people from all walks of life.
