About the Role
The New York Philharmonic is seeking a detail-oriented and people-focused Assistant Orchestra Personnel Manager to help support the musicians at the heart of one of the world's most renowned orchestras. In this role, you'll partner closely with the Orchestra Personnel Manager to coordinate orchestra operations, manage auditions, and contribute to an exceptional experience for musicians, guest artists, and conductors.
Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to navigate competing priorities with professionalism and care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Your Day-to-Day
- Support the day-to-day activities of the Orchestra Personnel Office, helping ensure musicians have the information and resources they need to succeed.
- Coordinate orchestra auditions, from candidate communications and scheduling through on-site audition operations.Â
- Prepare and communicate orchestra schedules, seating rosters, and other personnel-related updates.
- Coordinate the engagement of substitute and extra musicians for rehearsals, performances, tours, and special events.
- Partner with colleagues across Artistic, Production, Development, People & Culture, and other departments to support orchestra activities and musician engagement.
- Assist with onboarding, payroll, personnel records, and other administrative processes that support orchestra operations.
- Travel with the orchestra as assigned and provide departmental leadership support in the absence of the Orchestra Personnel Manager.
What you Bring to the Team
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three or more years of administrative, operations, personnel, or arts administration experience.
- Passion for music and the performing arts, with an understanding of orchestral organizations preferred.
- Experience working in orchestra personnel administration, artistic operations, or a related performing arts environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of orchestral repertoire, instrumentation, and the ability to read music is preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with orchestra personnel software is a plus.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Compensation & Work Arrangement
Salary Range:Â $75,000-$100,000
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications, skills, and experience. This role is based at David Geffen Hall and requires regular onsite attendance.
