Founded in 1985 by Board Chair Hon. John V. Lindsay, Executive Producer Bernard Gersten and Director Gregory Mosher, and led for 33 years by André Bishop, LCT is one of the leading nonprofit theaters in the country, producing an annual season of plays and musicals that have been seen by millions around the globe. It is one of 11 autonomous constituents of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Each year, the three theaters that make up LCT welcome nearly 400,000 audience members to its home on the Lincoln Center campus.    


Over the last 40 years, LCT and its outstanding productions have received many of the highest accolades, including 91 Tony Awards, 181 Drama Desk Awards, 84 Outer Critics Circle Awards, 36 Obies, 13 NY Drama Critics Circle Awards, and one Pulitzer Prize, as well as two finalists.

Position Summary: 

The Assistant Theater Manager, LCT3/Claire Tow Theater is an entry-level position within the Company and House Management team. Reporting directly to the Theater Manager, this role will support the day-to-day company management, administrative, logistical, and front-of-house operations of the Claire Tow Theater.  

This position is ideal for an emerging theater professional who already has some experience in company management, house management, theatrical administration, production, or a comparable role and is looking to continue developing their skills within a professional theater environment. Experience within the theater industry is strongly preferred.  

 

Responsibilities: 

Company Management & Administration  

  • Assist the Theater Manager with the day-to-day administrative and logistical operations of the Claire Tow Theater. 
  • Support company operations and personnel for productions, workshops, and various other events.  
  • Assist with processing union contracts, weekly payroll preparation, & reimbursements.  
  • Help coordinate artists’ travel, housing, & transportation arrangements.  
  • Maintain accurate company files.  
  • Assist with company communications and serve as an additional point of contact for company members.  
  • Assist with opening nights & other production-related activities.  
  • Communicate and collaborate with all other LCT departments.  


Front-of-House & Audience Services  

  • Assist the Theater Manager in creating a welcoming, safe, and professional experience for patrons, staff, artists, and guests.  
  • Greet and assist patrons before, during, and after performances.  
  • Help manage the lobby and theater spaces during performances and events.  
  • Assist with resolving patron and customer service issues in a professional and thoughtful manner.  
  • Coordinate late seating and house entrance procedures as needed.  
  • Assist with merchandise sales & concessions when applicable. 
  • Help monitor front-of-house supplies and communicate inventory needs.  
  • Assist with training, scheduling, and supervising ushers and other front-of-house personnel.  
  • Help ensure front-of-house staff are prepared for performance needs, accessibility requests, and emergency procedures.  
  • Assist with ADA accessibility accommodations and help ensure an inclusive experience for patrons.  
  • Support established theater safety and emergency procedures.  
  • Help maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of public and company areas.  
  • Communicate performance information between relevant teams. 
  • Assist with preparing house reports. 

 

Skills and Qualifications: 

This is an entry-level position; however, candidates should have some prior experience in house management, company management, theatrical administration, production, or an equivalent professional environment. Theater-related experience is strongly preferred. Experience with theatrical payroll systems, union agreements, and contracts is a plus. 


Candidates do not need to have held an Assistant Company Manager or Assistant House Manager title previously. Relevant experience may come from internships, apprenticeships, part-time positions, front-of-house positions, or other roles that demonstrate familiarity with the operations of a professional theater.  


Successful candidates should demonstrate:  

  • Some previous experience in company management, house management, theater administration, production, or a comparable role.  
  • A basic understanding of how professional theater environments operate.  
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.  
  • A professional, calm, and tactful approach when handling challenging situations. 
  • Good judgment and discretion when working with sensitive information.  
  • Basic computer skills and comfort learning new systems.  
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and payroll-related skills.  
  • Strong customer service skills and enthusiasm for working with both artists and audiences.  
  • The ability to work independently while also taking directions and collaborating with a team.  
  • Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification if requested.  

 

Schedule: 

This position works six days per week, a total of 40 hours per week, with the weekly schedule created collaboratively between the Assistant Theater Manager and Theater Manager based on the needs of the theater, production, and performance schedule.  


The schedule may include a combination of daytime administrative hours and evening and weekend performances. Flexibility will be required during production-specific periods.  

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

This is a full-time, non-exempt, salaried position with an annual salary of $60,000 based upon experience. Lincoln Center Theater provides comprehensive benefits including: Paid Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance, 403(b) and Employer Match, and Paid Time Off.
