Action Against Hunger USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network. As an independent NGO, Action Against Hunger USA currently manages operations in Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Haiti.

We are seeking an Associate Director, Strategic Partnerships to lead fundraising strategy for private foundations and programmatic corporate foundations, manage a high-value partner portfolio, and guide the growth of the Institutional Development team's partnership pipeline.

About the Role

The Associate Director, Strategic Partnerships sets fundraising goals, portfolio strategy, and team priorities for private foundation and programmatic corporate foundation partnerships. Reporting to the Director, Institutional Development, this role manages two direct reports, provides strategic direction to matrixed staff, and carries a portfolio that includes seven- and eight-figure opportunities.

The Associate Director will strengthen the partner base and help build a pipeline expected to generate at least $10 million in annual revenue in FY2026, with sustained year-over-year growth through renewals, multi-year partnerships, and expanded donor engagement. The role works closely with executive leadership, program and technical teams, country offices, Finance, Awards Management, Communications, and colleagues across the Action Against Hunger network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management: Manage and steward a portfolio of major private foundation and corporate partnerships, including seven- and eight-figure opportunities. 
  • Team Management: Lead team goal setting, performance management, and professional development through regular supervision, coaching, and problem-solving. 
  • Internal Coordination: Facilitate regular and ad hoc dialogue with network counterparts, technical unit, regional and program offices, awards management, systems and finance teams. 
  • Moves Management and Opportunity Advancement: 
    Develop and oversee moves management plans for high-priority prospects and strategic opportunities. 
  • Donor Intelligence and Strategic Positioning: Leverage donor research, market intelligence, account mapping, and due diligence findings to inform engagement strategies, partnership development, and fundraising decision-making
  • Reporting, Forecasting, and CRM Oversight: Oversee portfolio tracking, pipeline reporting, revenue forecasting, and CRM data quality. 
  • Organizational Representation (Conference, Panels, Pitches): Serve as a public representative for the organization in both public and private spaces.

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree is desirable.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience securing and managing six-, seven-, and eight-figure grants and partnerships, with significant private foundation and/or corporate foundation experience.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding foundation and corporate foundation partners through the full donor lifecycle.
  • Experience fundraising in international development, humanitarian assistance, global health, or the nonprofit sector strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing direct reports and leading teams, including coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong project management, organization, and attention to detail, with the ability to establish priorities and manage multiple deadlines under pressure.
  • Sound judgment, creativity, and the ability to identify solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to engage respectfully and diplomatically with diverse teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Additional language skills, including French or Spanish, are a plus.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required and to work outside normal office hours when needed to support global teams and partner obligations.
