Advance Local has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Editorial AI Producer  to support the growing use of AI across local newsrooms.Â

In this hands-on, collaborative role, you’ll help turn editorial ideas into practical tools, experiments, documentation and workflows, with a focus on making AI useful, understandable, and editorially sound. Â

The Associate Editorial AI Producer sits at the intersection of journalism, technology, and workflow design, with an emphasis on coordination, hands-on execution and user adoption. Â Â This position will work closely with newsroom leaders, local AI liaisons, and the central AI team to support project intake, training logistics, documentation, testing and rollout of AI-enabled workflows across markets.

The base salary range is $62,000 - $72,000 per year.

What you’ll be doing:
- Support reporters, editors, and newsroom leaders in shaping AI-related ideas into clear, practical use cases.
- Assist with documenting requirements, examples, and desired outcomes for AI-related workflows, automations, and tools.
- Serve as a day-to-day support contact for AI liaisons in each newsroom, escalating questions or decisions as needed.
- Track requests, meeting notes, project status, and follow-ups to help keep work organized across markets.
- Help prepare, coordinate, and deliver newsroom trainings, demos, office hours, and adoption materials.
- Create and maintain clear documentation, guides, prompts, and examples so tools are easy to understand and reuse.
- Test workflows and tools, gather user feedback, and summarize learnings for the central AI team and newsroom partners.
- Support consistent use of templates, processes, and best practices across markets.
- Assist with early exploration of data-driven or AI-assisted storytelling ideas for audiences.
- Document pilot results, lessons learned, and potential next steps without making specific product commitments.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field
- Minimum two years’ journalism, editorial, content production experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing
- Experience supporting projects, coordinating requests or helping teams adopt new tools or workflows
- Experience working in or closely with a newsroom, editorial product team, or journalism-adjacent role
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain tools, processes and updates clearly between editorial and technical audiences
- Comfort learning emerging tools and workflows (Familiarity with AI workflow tools like N8N, Mind Studio or others is a plus; deep expertise is not required)
- Highly organized, responsive and able to track multiple requests, meeting and follow-ups without losing momentum
- Ability to explore new tools and methods pragmatically, prioritizing impact and learning over trends
