Advance Local has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Editorial AI Producer  to support the growing use of AI across local newsrooms.

In this hands-on, collaborative role, you’ll help turn editorial ideas into practical tools, experiments, documentation and workflows, with a focus on making AI useful, understandable, and editorially sound.

The Associate Editorial AI Producer sits at the intersection of journalism, technology, and workflow design, with an emphasis on coordination, hands-on execution and user adoption.   This position will work closely with newsroom leaders, local AI liaisons, and the central AI team to support project intake, training logistics, documentation, testing and rollout of AI-enabled workflows across markets.

The base salary range is $62,000 - $72,000 per year.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support reporters, editors, and newsroom leaders in shaping AI-related ideas into clear, practical use cases.
  • Assist with documenting requirements, examples, and desired outcomes for AI-related workflows, automations, and tools.
  • Serve as a day-to-day support contact for AI liaisons in each newsroom, escalating questions or decisions as needed.
  • Track requests, meeting notes, project status, and follow-ups to help keep work organized across markets.
  • Help prepare, coordinate, and deliver newsroom trainings, demos, office hours, and adoption materials.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation, guides, prompts, and examples so tools are easy to understand and reuse.
  • Test workflows and tools, gather user feedback, and summarize learnings for the central AI team and newsroom partners.
  • Support consistent use of templates, processes, and best practices across markets.
  • Assist with early exploration of data-driven or AI-assisted storytelling ideas for audiences.
  • Document pilot results, lessons learned, and potential next steps without making specific product commitments.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field
  • Minimum two years’ journalism, editorial, content production experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing
  • Experience supporting projects, coordinating requests or helping teams adopt new tools or workflows
  • Experience working in or closely with a newsroom, editorial product team, or journalism-adjacent role
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain tools, processes and updates clearly between editorial and technical audiences
  • Comfort learning emerging tools and workflows (Familiarity with AI workflow tools like N8N, Mind Studio or others is a plus; deep expertise is not required)
  • Highly organized, responsive and able to track multiple requests, meeting and follow-ups without losing momentum
  • Ability to explore new tools and methods pragmatically, prioritizing impact and learning over trends
