Bioinformatics Technician – Shah Lab
Exciting Opportunity at MSK:
MSK’s Computational Oncology Service is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Bioinformatics Technician to support innovative research within the laboratory of Dr. Sohrab Shah, Chief of Computational Oncology. The Shah Lab develops and applies advanced computational methods to understand the biology, evolution, and treatment response of cancer. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research by supporting data analysis, developing workflows, and collaborating closely with computational and experimental scientists across MSK.
The Shah Lab integrates large-scale sequencing, single-cell profiling, mathematical modeling, and machine learning to advance precision oncology. As a member of this dynamic research environment, you will help drive data-intensive projects, ensure scientific rigor, and facilitate smooth operational workflows within an interdisciplinary team.
Role Overview:
Support research initiatives by developing, optimizing, and maintaining computational pipelines for genomic, transcriptomic, and single-cell datasets
Conduct quality control, preprocessing, and analysis of high-throughput sequencing data (e.g., whole-genome, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, single-cell -omics)
Apply statistical, algorithmic, and machine learning approaches to extract biological insights
Collaborate with researchers to troubleshoot analyses, implement bioinformatics tools, and support ongoing studies
Document workflows, maintain code repositories, and contribute to reproducible research standards
Assist in generating figures, summaries, and data presentations for internal review bodies and scientific publications
Participate in lab meetings, cross-functional collaborations, and computational review sessions
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred but not required)
Strong programming skills in Python and/or R
Experience working with next-generation sequencing data and associated tools
Familiarity with commonly used bioinformatics software, reference databases, and workflow managers
Ability to analyze, summarize, and clearly communicate scientific findings
Demonstrated capacity to collaborate within multidisciplinary scientific teams
Experience in cancer genomics or large-scale data analysis is a plus
