The Chief Investment Officer AMUS (HSBC Global Asset Management USA) is responsible for the day-to-day management and development of the AMUS New York based investment teams. The AMUS investment function represents one of AM’s primary investment hubs in terms of both investment resources and assets under management. Working with the relevant Asset Class CIOs the AMUS local CIO is responsible for ensuring the respective investment processes are followed and investment performance is understood and issues addressed.

Role scope and principal responsibilities:

  • Senior leadership role working alongside senior investment professionals responsible for managing the AM investment platform (including the Global CIO, asset class CIOs, and other global investment leadership roles)
  • Reporting line to the Global CIO in charge of Local CIO coordination (Global CIO Liquidity), with active participation in global initiatives and cross-platform projects, contributing to strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement across AM. Regular direct check-in with AM Global CIO for strategic topics
  • Primary point of contact with the local CEO, partnering closely with local functions and teams to ensure effective coordination and delivery
  • Governance reporting responsibilities, providing direct updates and materials to senior forums, including the 40 Act Funds Board, Board of Directors, HSBC Fiduciary Risk Management, and the regional AMUS ExCo
  • Decision-making authority exercised within the parameters of the overall AM strategy
  • Oversight accountability for designated investment teams, covering buy-side investment management activities
  • Active participation in local investment meetings, maintaining regular direct engagement with investment team heads to strengthen risk awareness, support people management, and ensure teams deliver effective performance against agreed objectives
  • Management of multiple investment projects, ensuring clear scope, prioritization, governance, and delivery in line with platform objectives and stakeholder expectations
  • Macro and market research capability, applying current economic and market insights to support local discussions with team heads, governance forums, and clients, and to inform investment positioning and decision-making
  • Active engagement in public market discussions and broader investment thought leadership, leveraging market expertise to support PBUS priorities (e.g., client messaging, product positioning, and investment capability development), in line with applicable governance and communications requirements
  • Active participation in regional investment and sales-support activities, including delivering macro and market presentations, supporting client events, and partnering with regional stakeholders to provide investment insights and client messaging aligned to AM priorities
  • Ongoing support to Sales, providing timely investment updates, market commentary, and participation in client activity to help drive commercial outcomes and strengthen client relationships
  • Continuous liaison with Operations, ensuring effective trade lifecycle execution, issue resolution, and smooth day-to-day running of the investment platform
  • Management oversight of the trading desk and trading activity, ensuring appropriate governance, controls, and alignment with investment objectives and applicable dealing standards
  • Audit readiness and management, coordinating responses to potential internal and regulatory audits, ensuring timely provision of evidence, clear remediation plans, and effective stakeholder engagement
  • Fiduciary focus, ensuring the Group meets its obligations as a manager of client
  • Ensure relevant areas operate in compliance with FIM, GSM requirements, and applicable Desk Instruction Manuals
  •  Actively participate in operational, market, and regulatory risk forums, providing investment input, escalating issues as required, and ensuring actions are tracked through to closure
  • Partner with the appropriate asset class CIOs on fixed income and multi-asset processes, as required
  • Confirm that operational risks associated with the investment platform are appropriately managed and controlled by the AMUS Chief Operating Officer (COO), with other operational responsibilities also under the AMUS COO remit
  • Work close with Risk function to oversee portfolio risk exposures (e.g., duration, credit, liquidity, concentration, derivatives) to ensure alignment with mandates, limits, and risk appetite
  • Ensure robust pre- and post-trade controls, with clear escalation and timely remediation of breaches and near-misses
  • Maintain strong issues management discipline (root-cause analysis, action plans, ownership, target dates, evidence of closure)
  • Strengthen oversight of trade lifecycle operational controls in partnership with Operations (allocations, confirmations, settlements, reconciliations) through the FOMC
  • Support the oversight of valuation and pricing governance, including independent price verification and escalation of pricing exceptions
  • Monitor liquidity and redemption risk, ensuring appropriate liquidity metrics, escalation triggers, and contingency playbooks are in place
  • Ensure effective management of third-party and vendor risk for critical investment and trading services (service reviews, controls assurance, contingency planning)
  • Support business continuity and operational resilience for investment and trading activities (coverage, testing, and readiness for system or process disruption)

Your final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and several variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
