Coach Across America is a national service organization that recruits, trains, and supports coaches to transform youth, programs, and communities. Coach Across America, an AmeriCorps program, helps youth across the country succeed by harnessing the power of sport to improve their mental and physical well-being. Diverse cohorts of Coach Across America AmeriCorps members provide sports-based mentorship to youth in schools and community-based organizations to ensure youth are equipped with the skills to achieve their full potential on and off the playing field. Â
Host Site & Coach Description
Williamsburg Charter High School (WCHS) is a high performing, public charter high school located in Brooklyn, New York. WCHS opened in August 2004 as the first Chancellor-authorized charter high school in the City of New York with a ninth grade class of 267 students. WCHS has grown to serve approximately 963 students in grades nine through twelve. The school’s mission is to unite youth, families, staff, teachers and the community at large in providing young people with the tools necessary to make sense of the world, and prepare them in their journey to become skilled workers and literate citizens of the world. Young people will accomplish this through their participation in a rigorous and demanding liberal arts education that includes language, literature, writing, science, history, mathematics, the arts, technology, and exploration in disciplines designed to teach fairness, justice, respect and compassion for themselves and others, as well as the skills of critical thinking, communication and research. Williamsburg Charter High School located in Brooklyn is seeking an energetic, motivated, and inspiring coach for our high school co-ed school day and after-school sport/club programming during the school year.
Applicants should have at least 1-2 years of experience in coaching. The coach will work under the direct supervision of the Youth Development Manager. The coach will be required to enforce discipline, nurture student needs, and model sportsmanlike behavior at all times. The hours are 37.5 hours per week, approximately 10:00 a.m.- 4:30 pm, pending game schedules. Pay is as per AmeriCorps. Responsibilities
The coach will work under the direct supervision of the Youth Development Manager. The coach will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering an appropriate range of sports activities and programs for students who attend the after-school club and/or during lunchroom games, events, and activities during the school day. Typical school responsibilities include: supervising, teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques, escorting students to and from practices and games, storing, distributing, and collecting materials/equipment, and following all safety and school/league protocols.
Requirements
- Applicants should have at least 1-2 years of coaching experience in a sport CPR/AED Certification
- Concussion Training
- The coach will work under the direct supervision of the Youth Development Manager
- The coach will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering an appropriate range sports activities and programs for students who attend the after-school club and/or during lunchroom games
