New York - Opportunistic Commercial & Restructuring Litigation Associate (2–6 Years)

Our AmLaw 100 client is quietly adding a litigation associate to its New York office to sit at the center of major restructurings and high-value commercial disputes. This is a seat on a team that lives in stressed and distressed situations, working shoulder to shoulder with premier financial restructuring and special situations partners on matters that actually move markets.

Role Summary
You will:
  • Litigate complex commercial and restructuring disputes in federal district court, bankruptcy court and state courts, including New York and Delaware.

  • Handle the full life cycle of litigation, from drafting and responding to complaints through discovery, motion practice, hearings, trials and appeals.

  • Work closely with top-tier financial restructuring and special situations teams on matters involving stressed and distressed companies, including cross-border and multi-stakeholder situations.

  • Represent both debtors and creditors, including official committees, ad hoc groups and institutional investors.

  • Take on substantial drafting responsibility and direct client contact early, with real ownership over briefs and strategy meetings.

Candidate Profile
The right associate will bring:
  • 2–6 years of commercial litigation experience in a sophisticated law firm setting, with meaningful exposure to restructuring or bankruptcy-related litigation.

  • Experience litigating in federal and state courts, ideally including work in New York and Delaware.

  • Comfort handling a busy docket: pleadings, complex motion practice, discovery management and drafting appellate briefs.

  • Strong writing and research skills, with a track record of turning around clean, persuasive work product under real time pressure.

  • Stellar academic credentials and training from a respected commercial litigation or restructuring group.

  • New York bar admission, or the ability to obtain it promptly.

Why This Role

  • Elite restructuring platform. Our client’s financial restructuring practice is widely regarded as a restructuring powerhouse, regularly handling many of the most complex, high-profile restructurings in the market and advising creditors, committees, debtors and key investors on multibillion-dollar matters.

  • Real litigation, not just paper. The group is integrated with a nationally recognized disputes platform that includes former Supreme Court clerks, veterans of the Solicitor General’s Office and alumni of key federal agencies, handling sophisticated commercial cases, class actions and parallel proceedings.

  • Recognized by the benchmarks that matter. The firm’s restructuring and appellate teams have repeatedly been recognized in Chambers USA and Chambers Global, and profiled by Law360 as Practice Groups of the Year for their work on complex chapter 11 cases such as Steward Health Care and Diamond Sports Group.

  • Strategic growth focus. Firm leadership is investing heavily in restructuring and corporate transactions, reinforcing this as a core revenue and growth driver rather than a support function.

  • Compensation and benefits. Base salary range in New York is 225,000 to 415,000, consistent with the top of the market, plus bonus and comprehensive benefits.

This role is in-office in New York, within a litigation team that works closely with restructuring, special situations, funds and transactional colleagues on high-impact matters.
