Controlled Combustion is the leading commercial heating contractor in NYC. We serve a variety of industries, including luxury apartments, hospitals, universities, commercial buildings, and more. With over 150 employees, our team is as diverse as the services we offer.


We are looking for a Commercial Heating Technician / Gas and Oil Burner Service Technician to join our team of Local Union 638-B service technicians.


This is a field service position for a technician with hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing commercial gas and oil burners, boilers, controls, and related heating equipment at customer locations throughout the New York Metropolitan area.


Our technicians are responsible for diagnosing service issues, firing and adjusting burners for safe and efficient operation, working with commercial temperature controls and devices, and troubleshooting electrical circuits and related burner/boiler issues.

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial gas and oil burners.
  • Fire and adjust burners for safe and efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot combustion failures, open limits, electrical issues, and control problems.
  • Service and maintain atmospheric boilers, condensing boilers, Scotch marine fire tube boilers, and related commercial heating equipment.
  • Use electrical meters, combustion gas analyzers, hand tools, and other field service equipment.
  • Adjust and install commercial temperature controls and related devices.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, supervisors, and other team members.
  • Complete service reports and job documentation accurately and on time.
  • Follow company safety procedures, customer site requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in overtime, weekend work, and after-hours/on-call work as needed.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday

Experience Preferred

  • Servicing gas and/or oil burners: 1 year preferred
  • Commercial heating, boiler, burner, HVAC, or related field experience preferred
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Experience using a combustion gas analyzer preferred
  • Experience with commercial temperature controls preferred


License / Certification

  • Driver’s License preferred


Work Location

  • In person / field service throughout the New York Metropolitan area

Requirements

 Qualifications / Skills

  • Understanding of combustion theory.
  • Experience servicing and maintaining gas and oil burners.
  • Experience with atmospheric boilers, condensing boilers, and Scotch marine fire tube boilers preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot combustion failures, open limits, control issues, and related burner/boiler problems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical circuits and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient with an electrical meter, combustion gas analyser, hand tools, and common field service equipment.
  • Ability to fire and adjust burners for maximum safe efficiency.
  • Strong mechanical ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Reliable, professional, and able to work independently in the field.
  • Ability to complete service reports and job documentation accurately.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and participate in after-hours/on-call work as needed.


Minimum Education and Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience servicing gas and/or oil burners preferred.
  • Commercial heating, boiler, HVAC, electrical, or related trade experience preferred.
