The Psychologist provides evaluation and treatment to children who have been victims of sexual and physical abuse and exposed to violence and other traumatic events. This position provides short crisis intervention, mental status assessments and short and long term psycho-therapy using evidenced based therapies. The psychologist also participates in training of psychology interns and social work staff.
Essential Functions
- Assess psychological and psychosocial status of the child and family * Diagnosis and treatment plans are generated in an accurate and timely manner
- Conduct on -going psychosocial assessments utilizing all available data * Diagnosis and treatment plans are generated in an accurate and timely manner
- Provide crisis intervention when necessary * Disposition and treatment to ensure optimal recovery and management of crisis.
- Provide short -term psycho therapy to children and adolescents on an individual, family and group basis, seen in weekly hourly sessions * Reduction in patients symptoms and improved family outcomes.
- Makes use of appropriate interview schedules, as well as scales and tools to assess mental status of patients for treatment and research * Accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Maintains patients chart thoroughly entering intakes, treatment plans, progress notes, session notes and all contact with other services providers involved. * Appropriate documentation written in a timely fashion and consistent with MMC hospital standards.
- Participates in departmental programs, i.e. quality improvement, statistical reporting, continuing education, staff meetings and in-service training * Attendance in all programs is critical to the coordination and collaboration of improved patient outcomes.
- Patient advocacy and consultation * Success measured by parents better understanding of systems and improved outcomes for families.
- Demonstrates skill and knowledge related to Child Protective Services responsibilities * Ensure that all children are safe with mandated reporting to the State Central Registry for investigation.
Qualifications
- BS Psychology Required
- MS Psychology Preferred
- 4-6 years experience with pediatric and adult population, preferably in under served areas in a community based setting Required
- Bi-lingual Preferred
- Superior communication skills( both written and oral) required
- Physician Required
- OHS Fit Test Required
- OHS Annual Assessment Required
- New York State License Required
