The Opportunity
We're looking for a Data Engineer who can translate the needs of a growing finance business into clean, reliable data systems. You'll work across a range of sources, from Bloomberg feeds to portfolio and accounting systems, and be the person who makes sure the numbers the business relies on are accurate, timely, and well understood.
This is a hands-on build role in an early-stage data function. You'll have real input into how things get structured, but the priority is practical, business-aligned data work over pure infrastructure design.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain data pipelines that support financial reporting, general ledger, and portfolio operations
- Ingest and transform data from sources including Bloomberg, Enfusion, REST APIs, and FTP feeds
- Partner directly with finance, operations, and risk teams to understand what the data needs to support and build accordingly
- Own data quality checks across the pipeline, catching issues before they hit downstream users
- Maintain the data dictionary and basic governance standards as the function matures
- Monitor pipelines against SLAs and flag problems proactively
- Support ad hoc reporting and analysis requests from business stakeholders
- Use AI-assisted tools (including Claude-based workflows already in use at the firm) to speed up day-to-day development
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in financial services, building or maintaining data pipelines
- Strong SQL and Python skills, with the ability to write clean, production-ready code
- Experience with a pipeline orchestration tool (Dagster, Prefect, Airflow, or similar); we use Dagster, but tool-specific expertise matters less than solid fundamentals
- Comfort working with portfolio, accounting, or trading systems
- A track record of working closely with non-technical business stakeholders to translate requirements into data solutions
- Genuine interest in data quality and governance
- Comfort in an early-stage environment where process is still being defined
- Interest in using AI tools to work faster and better
How You Work
- You think about the business problem first and the technical solution second
- You're the kind of engineer people on the finance and ops side actually want to talk to
- You care about getting the data right because you understand why it matters
- You are curious about the business behind the data and naturally drawn to understanding why something matters.
What You'll Get
- Real ownership over how data supports the business, from financial reporting to portfolio operations
- Direct exposure to finance, ops, and risk teams, and a clear line of sight from your work to business decisions
- Room to build practical solutions in an early-stage function, without the weight of legacy systems or process
- An environment that actively embraces AI-driven workflows and encourages experimentation
