Royal Waste (Waste Connections) is currently looking for a Diesel Fleet Maintenance ManagerĀ for our Jamaica, NY market.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensures adherence to the corporateĀ safety program.
  • FostersĀ collaborationĀ between and among personnel.
  • Ensure adequate training ofĀ mechanics,Ā preventative maintenanceĀ mechanics.
  • Ensure location is in compliance with all regulatory agencies and statutes.
  • Ensure proper completion ofĀ repairĀ orders by all technicians.
  • Responsible for the control ofĀ inventoryĀ and maintenance of equipment.
  • Trains and assistsĀ MechanicsĀ on methods for diagnosing and repairing vehicles and equipment.
  • SchedulesĀ or assigns work toĀ Mechanics, PMĀ MechanicsĀ or other Maintenance Shop personnel.
  • Coordinates and/or transports vehicles to outside service forĀ repairs, as needed.
  • Tests vehicles to troubleshoot problems and/or testsĀ repairsĀ to ensure proper and safe completion.
  • Makes emergency road calls toĀ repairĀ trucks.
  • Communicates regularly with the Division Maintenance Manager.
  • Assists in monthly financial projections and annual budget.
  • Responsible for maintaining department’s costs within budget

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have ability to plan, budget, schedule, and supervise multiple projects from concept to completion.
  • Must have excellent working knowledge ofĀ DOTĀ compliance requirements.
  • Must have ability to motivate staff to meet corp., region, division, and district objectives.
  • Must have excellent organizational, analytical andĀ communication skillsĀ and ability to achieve cost effective solutions.

Ā Requirements:

  • Ā 5+ yearsĀ mechanic experienceĀ with truck, light orĀ heavy equipmentĀ maintenance andĀ repair. (Waste industry experience desired)
  • Ability to train and motivate staff a must.
  • Knowledge of air brake, hydraulic andĀ electrical systems.
  • Trade or Technical SchoolĀ CertificateĀ preferred.Ā High School or Equivalent required.
  • Holds or ability to certify forĀ CDLĀ within 90 days of start date.
  • Proficiency in vehicle andĀ equipment diagnosisĀ andĀ repair.
