Purpose

 

The Director, U.S. Commercial Real Estate Finance Risk will play a key role in supporting the growth and governance of Scotiabank’s U.S. Commercial Real Estate Finance platform. The role provides senior credit risk leadership across non-recourse commercial mortgage lending, warehouse finance, CMBS, and related CRE loan distribution activities.

 

The successful candidate will assess transaction and portfolio risk, contribute to the development of credit standards and risk parameters, and help ensure the platform grows in a disciplined manner consistent with approved credit policy, underwriting standards, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations.

 

The position reports to the Head, Commercial Real Estate Finance Risk and works closely with CREF business leadership, U.S. Credit Risk Management, and enterprise risk stakeholders.

 

What You’ll Do 

 

  • Provide senior credit risk leadership for the U.S. CREF platform.
  • Develop and maintain credit risk frameworks, including underwriting standards and lending parameters.
  • Assess proposed CREF transactions and portfolio risks.
  • Present CREF credit risk matters to relevant credit and risk committees as required based on adjudication levels.
  • Support engagement with U.S. regulators.

 

What You’ll Bring 

 

  • Extensive experience in commercial real estate credit risk.
  • Knowledge of CRE loan distribution and securitization concepts, including CMBS.
  • Understanding of CRE warehouse finance and loan‑on‑loan structures.
  • Knowledge of U.S. regulatory expectations.
  • Comfort presenting credit matters to senior management.
  • 8–10 years of progressively senior credit risk experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline required.
