Job Summary:
The Field Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of geotechnical and structural instrumentation systems on active construction sites. This role involves performing precise field measurements, collecting and documenting data, and ensuring monitoring equipment is functioning properly to support project safety and compliance. The Field Technician works closely with engineers, project managers, and field personnel to identify and report any abnormal movements or conditions that may impact adjacent structures or infrastructure.
Duties:
•   Install, maintain, and troubleshoot geotechnical and structural instrumentation, including but not limited to crack gauges, inclinometers, piezometers, settlement points, vibration monitors, and optical monitoring systems
•   Perform routine monitoring readings using total stations, data loggers, and handheld devices
•   Conduct daily, weekly, or real-time monitoring activities in accordance with project requirements
•   Inspect instrumentation and monitoring points for damage, tampering, or irregularities
•   Document and report field observations, readings, and any deviations from baseline conditions
•   Assist in layout and surveying tasks as needed for monitoring point installation
•   Coordinate with project teams to ensure safe access to monitoring locations
•   Maintain field equipment, tools, and vehicles in good working condition
•   Adhere to all safety protocols and site-specific requirements
•   Support emergency or after-hours monitoring as required
Education/Qualifications:
•   Minimum: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, or a related field
•   Preferred: Specialized certifications or training in engineering, surveying, or instrumentation and monitoring
•   Preferred: Prior experience in fieldwork, construction, surveying, or instrumentation/monitoring environments
•   Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and technical documents
•   Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately
•   Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments
•   Ability to lift and carry equipment and perform physical fieldwork
Certifications/Licenses:
•   Required: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
•   Required: NYC Site Safety Training (SST) Card (if applicable to region)
•   Preferred: Certified Survey Technician (CST) or equivalent surveying certifications
•   Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Requirements:
•   Personal vehicles are required to travel to and from project sites. Tolls, parking, and Mileage are reimbursable.Â
