About Pangram Labs

Pangram Labs’ mission is to protect authenticity by building the world’s best AI detection systems. We publish research on state-of-the-art AI detection techniques and algorithms, and build products to bring our technology into people's daily lives.

We are looking for high agency, mission-driven, and passionate builders to join our team. All roles are in person in Brooklyn, New York.

About the Role

We're looking for an full-stack engineer to own the buildout of Pangram's integrations into the platforms our customers live in, starting with LMS platforms (Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace) and expanding into hiring ATS systems, journal/publication management systems, trust & safety platforms, and similar workflows.

This is not a role where you'll be working with clean, modern APIs and great documentation. You'll be digging into LTI specs, navigating legacy systems, reverse-engineering partner platform behavior, and finding creative paths forward when the obvious one is blocked. We are looking for a strong, backend-focused engineer who is resourceful, comfortable with ambiguity, and scrappy.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build integrations that bring Pangram's AI detection capabilities natively into third-party platforms

  • Work across the LMS ecosystem (Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace) using standards like LTI, REST APIs, and platform-specific extension points

  • Expand integration coverage into ATS platforms, publication management systems, and trust & safety tooling

  • Own integrations end-to-end: scoping, architecture, implementation, testing, and ongoing maintenance

  • Work within our existing stack (Django backend, React frontend) and extend it as needed to support new integration patterns

  • Document integration architectures and maintain reliable, well-tested code

  • Partner directly with LMS platform providers to secure sandbox access, gather integration requirements, and manage the app listing and approval process

  • Lead technical onboarding with school and district administrators, including attending implementation meetings when needed

  • Provide ongoing technical support, troubleshoot integration issues, and respond to support inquiries in a timely and professional manner

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in web development

  • Strong backend engineering skills with meaningful experience in Python/Django

  • Full stack literacy: you're comfortable working in React when needed, but your strength and preference is backend work

  • Direct experience building integrations with third-party platforms, ideally in the LMS/edtech space or similarly complex enterprise ecosystems

  • Familiarity with integration standards and protocols like LTI, OAuth, SCIM, webhooks, and REST/GraphQL APIs

  • A high tolerance for ambiguity, bad documentation, and legacy systems: you don't give up when the path isn't clear

  • Strong debugging instincts and the patience to trace issues across system boundaries

  • Clear communication skills — you can explain technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively with partner platform teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with LTI 1.3 / LTI Advantage specifically

  • Familiarity with ATS platforms (Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, etc.) or publishing systems (ScholarOne, Editorial Manager, OJS, etc.)

  • Experience working at an early-stage startup

  • Background in edtech or academic publishing

About the Team

We are a small, tight-knit team of researchers and engineers who care deeply about our work and each other. We believe that a small group of highly talented, empowered, and efficient people can outperform teams many times their size. Everyone on the team has meaningful ownership over the technical and strategic direction of the company.

Pangram is primarily an in-person company. We are high-touch, high-energy, and extremely collaborative by nature and choose to spend time together to do our best thinking and innovation.
