Goods Receiver
Job Description
 We are looking for an eager Goods Receiver to join the team at The Whitby Hotel! The ideal candidate will be trained and proficient in lifting and handling techniques, and will have experience in the food service and/or hospitality industry. In addition to being an exceptional team player, this candidate would possess excellent organizational skills, great attention to detail, and be driven by delivering exceptional service.


The Receiver is responsible for the receipt, verification, and processing of all goods received by The Whitby Hotel. The Receiver practices safe food and beverage handling procedures, handles all other items safely and efficiently, and is responsible for maintaining the organization and cleanliness of all storage areas. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately record all deliveries and monitor stock levels, including alcoholic beverages, within the hotel. 
  • Guarantee all stock received is delivered to the designated storage place and/or holding area.
  • Ensure that the storerooms are clean, meet safety standards, and are set up for efficiency. 
  • Distribute stock correctly across hotel departments by the required times as indicated by departments. 
  • Work with all departments to ensure a smooth transition of items from receiving to storage and designated areas for use. 
  • Manage stock rotation effectively so products are used and consumed in date sequence to minimize waste.
  • Liaise with managers daily to advise on all deliveries contingent on daily service needs.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the Back of House Manager and Purchasing Manager. 
  • Build positive relationships and sustain a high level of professionalism with vendors and delivery personnel.
  • Update, maintain, and file daily order/ delivery paperwork to ensure accurate recording. 
  • Inspect all food and beverage product quality/condition at time of receipt, making sure all damaged, dented, or broken items are reported; anything questionable must be approved by the Back Of House Manager.
  • Maintain and ensure the cleanliness and safety of the work area, including all storerooms. 
  • Consistently demonstrate Firmdale Core Values, Attention to Detail, Enthusiasm, Passion, Relationships, and Resilience. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Excellent computer skills, especially proficient in Microsoft Excel. 
  • Excellent communication and numerical skills. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly, and prolonged extended periods of standing.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions, contributing to stressful situations.
  • Able to work in frequent exposure to changes in temperature conditions.
  • Must be literate and able to communicate in English and on a five-star level when dealing with colleagues and vendors.
  • Certified and experienced in using common warehouse equipment such as manual and electric pallet jacks.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in the hospitality or food service industry.
  • Knowledge in and or experience with 5-Star service standards is preferred.
