The ideal candidate is committed to helping students develop scientific reasoning, problem-solving skills, and curiosity about the natural world while connecting scientific learning to issues of health, the environment, and social justice. Key Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum Design Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous Biology lessons aligned with New York State Learning Standards and Regents requirements Integrate inquiry-based instruction, hands-on laboratory experiences, and real-world applications of science Incorporate technology to enhance student engagement and support data-driven instruction Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary learning experiences connecting science to law, policy, and social justice Assessment and Data Use Use formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and growth Provide timely and constructive feedback to students Maintain accurate academic records and analyze student data to inform instructional decisions Classroom Culture and Relationships Foster a safe, inclusive, and academically challenging learning environment Model respect, fairness, and professionalism in all interactions Communicate regularly with families to support student learning and growth Professionalism and Growth Participate actively in professional learning, collaborative planning, and school initiatives Reflect on instructional practices and seek opportunities for continuous improvement Uphold the mission, values, and expectations of the Charter High School for Law and Social Justice Skills and Abilities Strong classroom management and student engagement strategies Ability to inspire curiosity and critical thinking in students Effective collaboration and communication skills Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy QualificationsRequired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Science Education, or a related field New York State Certification in Biology / Living Environment (or eligibility for certification) Minimum of two years of teaching experience Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settings Excellent oral and written communication skills Experience integrating educational technology into instruction Willingness to learn and grow professionally Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Secondary Education, Biology, or a related field Experience teaching Biology or Living Environment Regents courses Experience supporting English Language Learners and students with disabilities
